So, with the tax rebate from Bush, will I have to declare it in my income taxes later?

Richard M
No.

While the rebate depends on your 2007 income, it is actually a rebate toward your 2008 taxes. According to the proposed plan, in 2008, taxes would be cut from 10 percent to zero percent on the first $6,000 dollars of taxable income for individual taxpayers.

It's like a one time tax cut for 2008, but you get the rebate now instead of waiting to file your 2008 taxes. Because this is an advance payment on your 2008 taxes, your refund next year could be more (or less!) depending on your 2008 income.

bjg2007
No it is a rebate...not declared as income.

Nothing is ever free! It will just add to our government debt.

no its a rebate

no it is not. think of it as money found in the laundry-finders keepers.

The rebate is actually a prepayment of a tax cut that will take place for 2008 taxes. While the rules are still under development, you'll probably show the amount of your rebate on next year's tax return, but it will be offset by the reduction in the tax rates.

Frog-Leggs
I don't know, I was wondering the same thing. Ask you tax accountant this year when you file.

I think this rebate is chump change, if Bush truly wanted to make a difference for America and the severity he has 'screwed' it, the rebate would be a real, significant financial help to the population, which it is not

google it

No, its a rebate of 2007 taxes, based on 2007. When you normally get your income tax check back each year, you don't then claim it on the following years taxes, as that income has already been taxed. Otherwise, that would be double taxation.

No, it's a rebate, it's not considered taxable income
