Stimulis check interception?
I wrote a while ago and asked if my ex, who is behind of child support, would have his stimulis check intercepted like his income tax was. All of the answers that I got were yes. My good friend is also behind on his child support, about $1000.00. Got his stimulis check on Monday. Did he just get it with luck?? They did intercept him income tax. Just wondering if anyone knows if the state really is intercepting it or not. He (my friend) says that they wont because it is a non traceable income? I'm confused

read the last part about child support payments

Q. I received my stimulus payment, but it was less than what my friends and neighbors received. Why?

A. Your economic stimulus payment will be based on information provided on your 2007 income tax return.

Many, but not all, taxpayers qualify for the maximum basic payment of $600 for singles or $1,200 for married couples. Many parents are also receiving an additional $300 for each qualifying child, born after Dec. 31, 1990.

Your payment may be less than the maximum for one or more of the following reasons:

* You are single and your net income tax liability is less than $600. If you file Form 1040 net income tax liability is the amount shown on Line 57, plus the amount on Line 52.
* You are married and your net income tax liability is less than $1,200.
* You are single and your adjusted gross income (AGI) is more than $75,000. On Form 1040, AGI is the amount on Line 37.
* You are married filing a joint return and your AGI is more than $150,000.
* You owe back taxes.
* You have non-tax federal debts such as unpaid student loans or child-support obligations.

on my stimulus check info it did state that if you owed arrears to child support or had student loans that your stimulus check would be intercepted just like your tax return... i think your friend caught a lucky break or all the paper work hasn't gone though yet for the government to take his check

freudian fate
maybe what he owed was paid with what he was gettign back in his tax refund therefore making his stimulus check payable...

carrabellebarber
they should forward it to you my mom is rasing my step sisters kids and my mom got my stepsisters because of back child support and plus got the fathers because of back child support. all was their stimulus payments

It depend's on what state you live in there all different when it comes to arrear's you have to owe so much in arrear's before they will take it. Like in pa you have to be 500$ or more in arrear's and have to be deliquent for 3 mth's before they will intercept it

maybe he didn't owe enough arrears - I think it has to be 3 months behind - and more then the monthly amount he pays.

yes they do take it my husband owes and they keep our so maybe he got it by luck

If the local child support agency has filed the proper paperwork, then it will be intercepted. It's possible that hasn't been filed yet for the money your friend owes. It has nothing to do with "non traceable income", whatever he means by that.

IRS doesn't Take Stimulus Checks for back Child support only Income Tax Refunds

my question is can my amount of childsupport be increase if all he owes is back childsupport. He owes 41.000.00 and only has to pay 105.00 a month, that not far to me or child. doesnt matter that child is still living at home, but is still in college. It will take him a life to to pay that, should at least be 250.00 a month

steves
A stimulus check is a refund for student loans. It cannot be intercepted. I know this personally.
