Riley♥&Brody's♥ Momma | Stimulus check HELP! Married filing jointly (I am a stay-at-home mom)?? |
I read that married filing jointly with an income under $150,000 will be eligible for a refund check of $1200.00. My hubby made no where close to this amount. I am a stay at home mom of a 2 yr old little boy. I assumed we were going to receive a check of $1500.00, ($1200.00 plus $300 for him)
BUT I just did the online calculator and it has us as only recieving $900.00??? (We have one child but our tax prep claimed 3 exeptions.)This seems to make all the difference. If I put in 1 for 1 child on the online form it brings up $900 but if I put in all our exemptions (3) it gives us a $1500.00 total. Does anyone know why or how or what is correct? Thank you for your help...
This is confusing... |

Ok, do you have any "net income tax liability". Check your taxes. I know its line 35 on 1040A. If you DO NOT have any net income tax liability. you will not receive the full amount. You will receive the minimum per couple, $600. plus $300 for child, thats $900. I know its confusing. i only know this because we are in the same boat and i was dying to figure this out. I guess we should be lucky we get that, because i read they just passed that stipulation in right before the checks went out. It says you can still receive the minimum stimulus amount even if your net tax liability is 0 if you have at least $3000 in qualifying income. Hope this helps!! |

Whether you receive $900 or $1500 depends on your income.
If your income is low, you will only receive $900.00.
Married couples are eligible for a rebate of "UP TO" $1200. (Key phrase = Up To). Many people won't receive the full $1200 as their income is low. Many couples will receive onnly $600 and some will receive between $600 and $1200. |

You forgot the "up to" part. Married filing jointly is eligible UP TO $1200. That does not mean you will get the full $1200. it depends on what your tax liability was on your 2007 tax return. You being a stay at home mom is irrelevant. |

Sorry, you assumed wrong, you should have read the info sent to you or on the irs website instead of just assuming.. You get UP TO $1200 for you and your husband - the $1200 isn't a flat amount, it's for people whose federal income tax liability for 2007 was at least that much. Otherwise you get the amount of the tax, with a minimum of $600 assuming that you qualify for the stimulus payment. Plus the $300 for your child. If you had no federal income tax liability for the year, or under $600, the 600+300=$900 is correct. |

I was confused about this too because I am just like you. I thught I was going to get $1500($1200 for us and $300 for child) but since I did not work last year we are only getting the $900 |

You may have gotten $900 as your amount because your tax liability was not enough. You had to have paid in a certain threshold amount in taxes in order to receive money back. With you not working outside the home, I am guessing that your husband simply did not pay in enough taxes to get the higher rebate amount. |

I am also a stay at home mom. We are getting $1200.00 $600 for my husband and $300 for each child, we have 2. I don't get anything because I did not work.... So $900 for your husband and your child sounds about right. |

What was your total tax that you paid (2nd page of your 1040 form). If you did not pay at least $1200 in total tax then you will not receive the total amount back you you and your husband, your child will still get $300. I am a stay at home mom also, we have only 1 income, but we paid $1600 in total tax, and have 4 children, and on the IRS site it says we are scheduled to have our $2400 deposit tomorrow. Your # of exemptions is the total number of people in your family from your 1040 form, in your case it would be 3, in our case it is 6. |
