If two of her children are over the age of 17 as of December 2007 she will not get the $300 each for those two. That would explain why she is only getting $1,200 for her and spouse and $300 for one qualifying child. All children must have valid social security numbers also.

She won't get the 300 for any child that is going to be 18 or over in the 2008 tax year...

Interesting....my sister got $900 ($600+$300) and she has two kids ages 6 & 10...maybe they are only giving money for one child

$1,200 & $300...at the most I calculated $1,800 ($1,200+$300+$300) so I'm not sure how you reach $2,100

300 for each child and 600 for adult and 1200 for married couple.

The most common misconception is that all married couples will get $1200 + $300 for each kid.

They qualify for "Up To" $1200. People (along with the press seem to be ignoring the "Up To" part).

They can only get $1200 if they had at least $1200 in tax liability for 2007. If their tax liability was $600 or below, they would only receive $600 for her and her spouse. $600 + $300 + $300 + $300 = $1500.

Look at it this way. It is free money and they got back more than they paid last year.

This was taken directly from IRS.gov's website:

Starting in late April, the Treasury began sending economic stimulus payments to more than 130 million households. To receive a payment, taxpayers must have a valid Social Security number, $3,000 of income and file a 2007 federal tax return. IRS will take care of the rest. Eligible people will receive up to $600 ($1,200 for married couples), and parents will receive an additional $300 for each eligible child younger than 17. Millions of retirees, disabled veterans and low-wage workers who usually are exempt from filing a tax return must do so this year in order to receive a stimulus payment.

Perhaps 2 of the children are over 21 or all ready file taxes? or perhaps the income reported by your aunt dropped her to the lower level...if individuals made more than $75,000 or couple made more than $150,000 there is a percentage per $1,000 over the limits (75 and 150k) I believe it is 3%....

IF they paid in taxes greater than 1200 then they would get 1200 plus 300 per child under 17. that could be the 2100. However if they paid 600 or less in taxes they would receive 600 plus 300 per child under 17, that would be the 1500. Now if they paid anywhere between 600 and 1200 they would get that exact amount plus the 300 per child under 17. these amounts are for married filing joint.

well you only get it if you claim the children. did they claim the children as dependants? if not then the kids need their own tax returns filed to get the money which would come in separately. and yes you get the 300 if the child is over 18. it looks like they got 1200 for the 2 parents and one child which brings us to a total of 1500. also the amount you get is lowered the more you earn.
