calc001 | Stimulus package question...? |
My parents filed their 2007 taxes and would like to know how much they may get. They are married filing jointly. The income is $19,460.00. My sister and I live with them as dependents and we are over 18. So there are 4 of us all together. Some people tell them $1200.00. Some people tell them $600.00. Any help would be appreciated! |

Starting in late April, the Treasury will begin sending economic stimulus payments to more than 130 million households. To receive a payment, taxpayers must have a valid Social Security number, $3,000 of income and file a 2007 federal tax return. IRS will take care of the rest. Eligible people will receive up to $600 ($1,200 for married couples), and parents will receive an additional $300 for each eligible child younger than 17. Millions of retirees, disabled veterans and low-wage workers who usually are exempt from filing a tax return must do so this year in order to receive a stimulus payment.
I copied this from the irs site , you can go there and read it if you want to.http://www.irs.gov/newsroom/article/0,,id=177937,00.html |

They will not get any rebate for the dependents. Net rebate will be $600.
The rebate payment will equal the amount of tax liability on the return (tax liability on the return Form 1040 line 46 or Form 1040A line 28) with a minimum amount of $300 and a maximum amount of $600 for individuals.
For information on stimulus tax rebate schedule, the eligibility and how much rebate you will get read: http://taxipay.blogspot.com/2008/02/are-you-eligible.html |

They won't have paid income tax, so they'll be eligible for the basic $600. They won't get extra for you and your sister, that's only for dependent kids under age 17.
The only way they'd get $1200 is if they paid at least that much federal income tax for 2007, and with that income and two dependents, they didn't. Even without the dependents, they wouldn't have paid enough tax to get more than $600. |

first thing you need to do is. know the schedule of mailing. mailing dates are base on your parents social security number.
you can go to different site to know the schedule. remember you dont need to pay anyone for that information. go to this site. ist free.

i believe that they will get 600 because of the amount of the imcome. they wont be getting anything extra for you and your sister because you are both over 17... anyone over 17 is not seen as being a "dependant" . however, you may each fill out the top section of a tax form (if you didnt do any tax's this year) and both of you should get back 300 each. (alteast that is what i have been hearing)
if you go to irs.gov/stimulus there is an area where you can find the exact amount. also, i cant remember what the site is called but i think it was on myfox29.com where there are a ton of answers to questions about what amounts people are getting or have gotten and the reasons for the amounts. i havent given too much information but i hope it helps ;) |

I don't know for sure but from what I have heard a married couple will get 1200.. 600 for each person....it does depend on how much you make so they may only get 300.00 each because of their low income..
have they been filing taxes for the last few years and both have a social security #.. I see no reason why they would not both get the rebate.. go to www.irs.gov/faqs/index you should get your answer. |

Doesn't seem they have enough income, or have paid enough taxes to receive the whole $1200. I'd only count on $600. You and your sister are too old to get anything. There's a calculator on the IRS website. Have the 2007 taxes handy, and it should tell you what you'll get. |
