heebygeeby | Subsidising the unemployed? |
I read an article in the paper over the weekend stating that if we wern't taxed to the max carrying the unemployed,we'd all have enough money to pay for a brand new top of the range ford focus(monthly savings would pay for the monthly cost of car on hp)What do you think of that? |

Sadly a lot of people claim benefits when in fact they are perfectly OK to work themselves, because of that I agree with what you are saying.
On the other hand sometimes they really can't help it and that is the only way to survive.
So, go figure what to do!
Life just isn't fair..., hey? |

in an ideal world that would be lovely. i've been unemployed (not for long) in my younger days and without unemployment i wouldn't have had a roof over my head. i also worked a hell of a lot of years. i'm now on the disability pension. still trying to get work for my limited capacity, but have been looking for a break for 3 years now. living on the pension is the pits. living on nothing would surely mean a lot more hardship than i'm feeling now. i guess we pay our taxes when we can and then if we need the system it's there for us. without it we would have a lot more crime than we already have and a lot more homeless people. yes...an ideal world would be lovely. |

Bum Gravy.

And if we just minced up the unemployed we could feed them to the starving millions.
If you read it in a newspaper over the weekend when news tends to be a bit thin on the ground so newspapers re-hash old inaccurate stories to fill their pages, I'd say it was utter cr@p. |

It's a real eye opener.....although there are two types of unemployed people.
Those who really want to work but cant get a job
and those who can get jobs but won't work.
The benefits system does have some issues....
say for example....
A family of 2 adults and 2 children....both parents out of work....
they would recieve on average, £94 a week unemployment benefit, plus say around £70 child tax credit. so thats £164 a week in benefits...plus say cheap rent £90 a week and council tax say £25 a week (£100 per month) ok..
so in effect they would recieve in total £279 inc rent and council tax.
Say the man gets a job £300 a week wife at home looking after children etc, after tax and NI it will leave around £240, take off the rent and council tax, that leaves £125 a week, should still get child tax of £70 and some working tax credit say £20..so that leaves an income of £215. so in effect he would be working say 40-48 hours a week to be £51 better off.
Personally I'd rather work I have my pride, but you can see why some don't bother, it's wrong but thats what it's become these days. |

If you ever become unemployed for whatever reason or couldn`t work what would you do ?
Any society can be judged by how it treats it`s most vulnerable
I estimate I have paid about £300,000 in tax in my life some of it went to pay for things I deaply disaprove off,but never unemployment benefit,Most people arn`t unemployed out of choice.
Tax includes drink,fags,petrol.holidays,food,clothing... goods,internet,insurance,savings,parking... fuel,tv,green tax`s,condoms,meals out,,,and so on and so on |

Give me a break. For all the money that we give to all the other public services, I really don't believe that would be the case.
People forget that our taxes pay for much more than our social security system. |

What would you do, allow families to starve and get thrown onto the street. This is 2007 not 1807 The amount of people deliberately unemployed is very low let's hope you do not join them one day. |

well none of us know when we will be out of work and whilst there are some scroungers who are to lazy there are also some genuine claims .i still think we would be taxed high and the government would just put the extra taxes in there own pot |

What you state seems about right.
I believe the national retailers that have great influence on the government encourage the flow of cash from working people to the wasteful eaters in order to boost the turnover of their outlets.
As most working people already buy all the food that they need, these funds would be directed elsewhere if they were left with the earners.
Severe restrictions on immigration and welfare would reduce not only the tax burden on working people but also overcrowding, road congestion and house prices. |

Limit immigration numbers, then stop dole after 4 weeks for fit people. Any party offering that will get my vote. |
