TAX return self-assessment.. HELP!?
Need to fill in the form soon, but haven't started it as never done it before. to be honest I'm just apprehensive about the whole thing,;hate maths/forms. But i've got to bite the bullet and do it myself., (can't afford an accountant or making enough money to justify that)

Any links to help out (UK)?
Experience/stories?
Pitfalls to avoid.

You don't have to self assess if you are not a company. You simply have to inform HMRC of your income and expenses (assuming you are trading) and they will work out the tax you have to pay. Be aware of the deadlines if you don't self assess - 31st October. If you work out your own tax the deadline is extended to 31st January. Use the HMRC website for assistance.
Ask accountants for a quote - it may not be as much as you think and would save you the hassle. They may even be able to suggest ways for you save tax.

It would help if we knew why you were self assessing. If you are self employed, you should have been keeping accurate records of all your income and expenditure and keeping your book keeping up to date. From there, you will be able to produce your accounts which can be transferred to the SA. Main pitfall is not keeping proper records and not taking advice when you need it.
