You need to know how much federal tax was withheld, and if your mom claims you as a dependent. If you are not self employed then those other expenses are not deductible. You do not need a program to do your taxes, it is very simple to do yourself by hand. Just go to www.irs.gov and print out the 1040EZ form and instructions, and you will need to reference the tax table as well (it is easy to search on the site). I learned how to do my taxes in a 9th grade economics class, and have been doing them for over 20 years (I am now 36). It is very easy and should take you like only an hour if you have only 1 income and no mortgage or children. Don't pay someone else to do it for you! It is really easy. Write back with your federal withholdings, your federal taxable income, and let us know if your mom claims you and we can give you a fast ballpark figure.** To add: do you have your last 2007 paystub so you can get a ballpark figure on your YTD federal tax withheld, and your federal gross pay?

It depends on what you paid. Do you have any kids? or other dependents. You get credit for kids. But that's not a REFUND. it's a CREDIT.

Chances are you'll get some money back from what you paid, but it depends on what you claimed on your exemptions.

I suggest going to Turbotax.com and filing your tax return there. You'll know pretty quickly what you'll get back if anything.

A tax Refund is just that a REFUND. If you overpaid over the course of the year, you will get money back as a refund. For example, if you chose to claim 0 dependents then the government would have collected more money from each check you received over the course of the year. If you do have some dependents and claimed 0 then you overpaid and will get some of the money back. You essentially gave the government a FREE LOAN over the course of the year. The best thing is to get $0.00 back as a refund. Then you will have only paid what you had to on each check and don't owe anything now.

I'm amazed at how happy people are when they get a HUGE refund! Are they kidding. If you get a $10,000 refund then you OVERPAID by $10,000!!!!!!!!!!! That means that each month you gave an extra $833 to the government and got NO interest on your money. That sounds like a pretty bad investment to me.

Depends on a lot of factors that you have not provided. Mainly are you being taken as deduction by your parents. If not, you can take a standard deduction of about $5,000, which reduces your agi to 11k. The taxes due for a single with 11,000 in agi is about $1,300, compare that amount with the amount that you paid in taxes and you can get an idea if you owe or will be getting money back. tba

Wisdom Seeker
First of all you have to have a W2 in your possession to know how much tax was withheld from your paychecks to begin to try to answer this question. Come back and tell me how much you had withheld, as reported on your W2 form(s), which must have a post mark on them addressed to you no later than Thursday January 31, 2008. Once you have those (or only one if you only had one job in 2007), you can START, ....to answer your question. My question to you for now is will your Mom claim you as a dependent on her return? If you answer yes this will have a big impact on the answer to your question because it will take away from your ability to get a refund on your own return. Chances are good that you will get a refund if you don't BOTCH things up with your being so in the dark on this topic. I STRONGLY urge you to pay a tax professional to do yours and your mother's taxes. Both of you need to make sure that BOTH of your returns are coordinated to the MAXIMUM benefit of both of you. You owe it to your mother to do this so you don't penalize her on her return. A tax professional can do this better than you can with any software program. And it will save you from disappointing correspondence from the IRS telling you that you didn't get a refund but instead owe them money. Pay someone so you have the least chance of paying the IRS. You will be glad you did and your anxiety will drop.

It's just not that simple. You really have to find someone who is willing to sit down with you and go through the form and instructions one step at a time.

Or pay someone to do it.

Anybody who provides you with an estimate here is truly guessing because they do not have the necessary information like how much you had taken out by your employer, are you claimed by anyone else, how much did you earn from savings accounts or dividends, etc.

Depends on how much you have paid in.
Look at your federal and state.
The goal for whoever prepares your taxes is to get as much as what you paid back to you.

Bill
To be honest I make around that amount and I wind up paying. They say students get everything back, but it's only if you make under a certain amount. Prepare to get screwed. sorry :{

Well, we don't know how much taxes you actually spent..go to taxcutonline..and before paying it can show you how much you could recieve back.

~Mac Junkie~!
depends if you have any dependents....w/o dependents probably a little of nothing♥{sorry}

pink1957girl
not enough info to answer!
State of residence?
how much withholding?

you need to get a software program to do your taxes! things like the various expenses won't make any difference since you will take the "standard deduction" and won't itemize
