sweetheart4 | Tax Question, 10 points for best answer!!? |
So back in 2005 I worked at a summer job for about 2 months and earned around $1,000 point being that I was not required to file taxes that year because I earned so little that year. My question is though, I was paid through personal checks from the owner of the store so he never took any taxes out of my money but he did have me fill out a W4 form. So do I owe money to taxes? |

Only if you received a 1099 or W-2 from the employer. If not, then the money was never reported and you don't need to pay taxes on it. What the employer did was not fully legal, but at this point it is his problem, not yours. |

What determines whether you owe money is whether you met the income minimum--and you didn't.
The employer was merely trying to obey the rules by having you fill out the W-4. After all, at the time you're first employed, it's not absolutely certain that you won't cross the line requiring you to pay taxes. He or she was just trying to maintain good records. |

Well, that depends, did you have any other income besides the $1000 for 2005? Also, the minimum wage you can make before you are required to file a return depends on whether you are a dependent or not.
Go to the IRS website for specific info to see what applies to you.

NOPE! Even though he was supposed to take taxes out you are WELL below the filing requirement threshhold ($8750 for 2007). |

A W4 is how you tell your boss how much money to take out of your paycheck. As long as you earn less than the standard deduction plus the personal exemption you do not have to file. |

No, you don't |

No...if you earned more than $3000 that year then you would have no matter how he paid you, but since you earned so little then you are fine...like you dont exist..haha |

NO you dont owe anything! |

Nope. You didn't earn enough money, and are therefore not required to file. |

Yes, If you were not getting paid cash(under the table) you will have to pay taxes on the the 1,000.D. Even if you work 2 hours and made 20.00D IT WOULD STILL BE TAXED. No big deal it should be around 200.d that you should owe. |

if you were under 18 then definitely no. but otherwise yes and don't tell anybody. it really doesn't matter because the government wouldn't audit you because they would spend more money than they would get. |
