You will have to bring your National insurance contributions etc up to date once you begin work again. You would be best contact your local Job Centre and asking for some straight forward advice. Even if you do not need the employment benefit, you can be assured that your are not falling behind with any owed Tax.

norm c
Sign on - this will cover your stamp (national insurance). If you are not earning you should not be paying tax anyway.
If you resigned you should not be entiltled to 'dole' but if you do not have stamps credited it may affect your future pension

Macca
you need to find out how to pay your national insurance contributions so when you retire you get your full state pension, you need to have paid 36-39 years worth, but you don't pay tax if your not earning

madge
If you sign on, they will pay your national insurance contributions, if you do not want to sign on , ask how you make payments to the inland Revenue, it will only be about £2.00 a week, you do not pay tax unless your are earning,In fact i do not think you will be able to sign on if you resign, go to your job centre and they will advise

You have to register and jump through all the bureaucratic hoops they require if you want assistance. Good luck.

You shouldn't be paying tax and national insurance if you're unemployed - either through being sacked or resignation.
