If rebate is less than about £1,000 they will just adjust your tax code (if you have one) to reduce next year's tax. You are still entitled to ask for a refund instead though and if so it is normally paid within 30 days or so.

ilovebigbrother
they may actually adjust your tax code so that you pay less tax than you should and the refund is issued in that form.
However you need to keep chasing them. If you keep chasing them they always act upon it more quickly and you are more likely to get a quicker response. Upon phoning them i would ask them if you are due a tax rebate how this will be paid

Sarah (28/UK)
Anything from a couple of months to a year. Just depends.

You will get it by next April (end of tax year).

Although, to be fair, I over paid my tax & they wrote to me to say I would be rec'ing a cheque, and that check came within two weeks. That was within 2 months of sending them my P60 from the previous year.

Good luck :-)

Tuppence
you're more likely to get a bill then a rebate!

ianmat
Probably early next year. I suggest you fill out tax returns online. They do immediate calculation and if you are due a rebate you get it VERY quickluy (mine came within a week). If you owe them, you don't pay them any sooner. Win-win!

~Fatally~
My husband was told you don't actually get a nice fat cheque like you used too, what they do now is adjust the tax you pay each week and pay you it back that way, So if you was to earn £250 a week you'd get £275 for a few weeks...See what I mean?...
