Tax rebate amount wrong?? why??
Myself and my husband filed a joint return, we had 4 children at the time. (we just had our fifth last month) 2 of which are my husbands from a previous marriage, she claims one and he claims one. so i calculated our rebate to be 2100. 1200 for us 900 for the three children we claimed, but checked account and the direct deposit amount was 875.00 ???? anyone know were i can go or who to call to figure out why??
Additional Details
its a really really odd amount....we made under 150000.00 and recieved a notice back in march that our amount should be 2100.00 based on our return!!! urrggg!!

First off, anyone who answers this question with a "You should just be happy you got something" IS CRAZY!!!! Because you know that if you had gotten the wrong amount, you would be asking where the rest is too! Ok, just had to say that. So have you gone on to the irs website? They have a calculator on there, you have to have your tax papers to get the information you need. Aleast then you can say that you were right, or wrong. If the amount is still not what its supposed to be, then you should call the IRS and let them know. I hope everything works out for you. And if I was you, i would be asking where the rest is too!

Well at least you have recieved something, most people are on her searching for rhyme and reason on why they haven't recieved anything. ! We have 4 children as dependents and we expect 1800, but I would be happy with any extra money at this point.

I know it also depended on how much you made a year if you two made over a certain amount they would start taking away from the rebate. I can't image them doing separate deposits one for you and one for your husband. mmmm I would call the irs and just ask about it. That is a big difference from what was expected.

Additional: Something is definitely wrong, even just as a married couple you should have got 1200. I would call and ask what is up, that is alot of money to be missing. Someone hit the wrong button on their keyboard. Hey don't listen to the people that say you should be happy with what you get. You are entitled to a certain amount and you should get that amount. Others would do the same if it was their missing money. Good luck to you.

I was supposed to get $900 and I got $733, I was wondering if they are taxing money before we get it.

You know what...I got the wrong amount, too. I got $600 for me, but nothing for my daughter, whom I claimed on my tax return this year!

I made $16,000 last year...it just confuses me why they say you will get one amount but they give you another.

NO ONE SHOULD FEEL BAD about complaining. After all, next year you have to claim this as income on your return.

It looks like the gov. screwed something else up. I too received the incorrect rebate and there is no way to get an answer from the 800 number. I didnt get credit for my children so the rebate is 600 short. I feel sure I wont ever get it either. This is why we can never let the gov. handle our healthcare. This is just money not our health. Really irritating.

You know what? Mine is wrong too and I have four kids. I dont owe anyone any money at all, so I have to think that it is just a mistake. I called the IRS and the riduculously intelligent woman on the other end said, "Thats it. Thats the right amount. They arent going to send you anymore money becuase thats the right amount and the IRS is always right." She said that they spent time calculating the amounts and that I must owe federal student loans or back taxes (which I dont). I only got 973 by the way. What is up?? And I am complaining about it. If they tell me they are going to give me money then they should give it to me....its mine to begin with. I pay a lot of taxes every year - they are just giving it back to me.

I didn't get credit for my 9 month old son whom I claimed. I really need it. I'm head of household and only making $15,0000 a year.

if you filed via direct despoit, perhaps the difference is the amount you paid to use the program.
