Tax refunds question?
i was wondering if anyone knows whether the tax refunds that are expected to be sent out by May are for the filing year of 2007,,or for the filing year of 2006? i've heard some say this past year, and i've heard some say for the year before and am unsure for which it will be based on.for 2006,,my husband and i both worked and are far below what the limit is,,but my ex-husband claimed my daughter on his 2006 return because she lived with him for most of that year.but then for 2007,again my husband and i both worked and made below the limits but when we filed for our 2007 return we were able to claim her because she lived with us for the entire 2007 yr... so i am unsure as to whether we will get the extra for my daughter..if it's based on 2007 then yes,,but if it's for 2006 then no...anyone here know for sure which i should expect? thanks...

If you're talking about the tax REBATES recently passed, they are based on your 2007 return.

chuck s
based entirly on 2007 filing , whaterve ryou had this year on your tax statment

The rebate checks will be sent out for filing tax year 2007 return. Go to www.irs.gov. The checks will be mailed starting May and go through July based on the last two number of the first social security number on the return, *the top line. If your daughter lived with you all of 2007 and you provided over half of her support for the year, then yes you can claim her. Again check the www.irs.gov, Publication 17. This publication has all the information on claiming dependents in plain english. I do believe that you will get extra on the rebate check.

definitely 2007

First, it's not a tax REFUND. It's a tax REBATE and it's completely separate from your refund. You HAVE to have filed a 2007 return (that would have been filed THIS YEAR). If you didn't file one this year, you won't get a rebate.

When you file a tax return, it's ALWAYS for the previous year (a 2006 return would have been filed in 2007).
