i was laid off for 2 months and fell behind 3k and i already got the letter saying they will take it. after they take thier 3k im still getting 4k back. im supposed to get it friday hopefully |

If the child support issue is being handled by the offset unit in the IRS there will be a delay. My experience would suggest 3 to 4 weeks. |

Cindy is right.
you will get your 4k back but it will be a short delay . The IRS takes both federal and state taxes when a person owes them and they do it immediately.

If your child support is state mandated... YEP your money will go towards what you owe for back child support...
they make sure that child is taken care of before you get anything !!
Happened to my childs father... he thought he was getting something back... but he got a suprise when hr got a letter stating it all went to me for back child support !! |

If they already told you they were going to take the 3k, then you will get your 4k back, if you are currant on your support now. They may take extra to get you currant if you are not. I would contact your FOC and find out. |

to answer, no i don't think they'll delay your return but it all depends on how much back support you owe.. if its more than your refund they're gonna take the whole thing.. if not, they'll take the child support and give you the rest.
one thing to note too is, i don't know where you live, but i'm in Philly, PA and i know here once you hit only $500 arrears they stop taking your refund. |

Yes there will forsure be a delay if they offset your taxes for childsupport....my ex owes alot to me in support and they always take his taxes then he gets it a few weeks later if he gets any at all.. |

I have heard that they can only take your state income taxes, not federal. I could be wrong. And whenever you are red-flagged by the IRS like that, trust me, they take their garnishments immediately, leaving you with whatever, if any, you would have coming to you out of their "deduction". |

ok i have been trying to find out why they havent took back child support out of my exhusbands taxes he owes over 11,000 they did it once a long long time ago but havent did anything after that any info would help please. |
