It will encourage fly tipping as people will always seek to find a way round a tax.
A lot of the rubbish I put out I accumulate through no fault of my own, eg excess packaging and junk mail and free newspapers. I hope the government is going to crack down on all of that. |

What can I do if I am getting tons of junk mail and a lot of superfluous packaging material when shopping ?
Punish or tax those who are the source for the rubbish, and more importantly, those who are the big energy eaters. |

I think it can be a good idea as it will make people think twice about what they throw away and they should recycle more, but there will still be lazy people who will try to sneak rubbish into next doors rubbish or fly tip, so it is not perfect. |

people will be dumping it round the corner if that happens |

We already pay too much council tax as it is. Can you imagine if they were to bring this one in too? People would just use everyone else's bins! I think that council's should provide more recycling facilities instead. |

Well, im paying out a few hundred pounds a month just on council tax, who supply the rubbish collections. but thats about all they do for me. wasting money on digging up the same roads constantly, and doing stuff for the community that does NOT need to be done!
They have wasted a few thousand on a statue to go on a roundabout!!!! and it has rusted and looks awfull already!
Dont get me wrong, i do my part to reduce my household waste, but charging more money for a service they already supply?! whats the point?! and im not made of money, im trying to scrape by on what little earnings i have already! |

They will tax everything, if it weren't for the rubbish, it would be for something else.
One day it will be for the carbon emission of our breath and the oxygen we breathe, just you wait!
This is not about the environment, it is about getting more money in a way that people won't complain, because we all know that rubbish and carbon emission are a real problem. If they were really concerned about the environment, they would inform people and make recycling easier. For instance, I don't have a recycling point near where I live, I can't leave my glass and plastic on recycling points because there are none in 1mile radius where I live.
So this is another measure to steal money from us. |

it was bound to happen eventually, maybe food companys should use less packaging and it would make us think twice about buying things we dont actually need and then binning it in the end because we left it in the fridge to go off! in ireland they banned carrier bags, you have to provide your own, sounds like a good idea to me! |

We live in a block where there are communial bins, this aint possible in this case.
Plus, it will give a rise in fly tipping |

I think it's a good thing, it would make people recycle more, however i think you should only be taxed if you put more than one bag for every two people in the household per week.
It would definitely combat our lack of land sites problem |

just another way to get money from us poor citizens, we will have no choice , they will bring this in.but, ! why dont we get reductions in our council tax + income tax on a failing government. |

Are you advocating payment for public services as you use them? |

We've already paid the tax on the amount of stuff we have already bought! What is the tax going to be used for? Especially if the bins are only emptied once every two weeks??? Hmm I wonder how much tax Gordon Brown would have to pay on his.... |

if they will then pay me for my recyclables to offset the cost, great. after all they will sell all the recycled paper & glass back to industry. |

Predicted Headlines....'Councils concerned of the apparent increase in fly tipping'
I agree that we should have a commitment to get sorted and we have been doing it in Aberdeenshire for some time now.
It's a good thing. However what I have noticed is that these councils do not make best provision for us to sort and expect those of in rural areas to dispose of plastics etc whilst those in towns have these uplifted from the kerb side.
And to start charging for the privilege is a no No! Only a way for the council to recoup the monies they have squander over the years or to pay for those folk who owe council tax.
Beyond a joke Tony ...but then you won't have to concern yourself on how your rubbish is disposed of your will all be incinerated no doubt. National Security....yea right laugh a minute... Yesterday news Terror suspects abscond. |

Its pathetic, they also have claimed the more recycling you do the less tax you'll pay??!! YEAH RIGHT!! |

I agree with Moza on this one. Who's going to pay large amounts of tax when they can go and dump the rubbish in a ditch somewhere? Not everyone will do it but I'm sure enough will to cause a major problem. The government just doesn't think things through. |

It's a good idea in theory but in practice surely it will be chaos?
People dumping rubbish all over the place, sneaking it into other people's bins, fly-tipping...!
Not to mention all that free sh*te that comes through the door, free newspapers, inserts etc., why should we pay for that junk! |

Most of my rubbish is unwanted packaging.
the rest is food waste. I would burn the packaging in the garden once a week or leave at the shop I purchased it from.
I bought a plasma 6 months ago and left the packaging at the shop. mainly because it didn't fit in the car but is was a great way of keeping my waste down.
I am not the best at leaving my bins out for collection so i miss them now and again., trust me after two weeks food waste is a problem. so god help us if they bring the two week collection out. imaging missing that.
especially as they will also fine you for leaving out your rubbish on the wrong day.
best thing to do is vote these idiots out |
