tennis2cool2003 | Teens for Economic Stimulus Plan????? |
So this year in total earnings I earned over $6,500. Now I've heard about the Stimulus plan from my dad and others (I'm 17). And I was wondering if they are going to give the $300-$500 return to ANYONE who filed their taxes. Or is it for people who earn a certain amount above or below the amount required. Additional Details So my parents will get the $300 for me??? |

If your parents claim you as a dependent, you will be ineligible for the rebate, but you may still benefit under the plan.
While the rebate depends on your 2007 status and income, it is actually a rebate toward your 2008 taxes. According to the Economic Stimulus Act of 2008, taxes would be cut in 2008 from 10 percent to zero percent on the first $6,000 dollars of taxable income for individual taxpayers.
So if you have taxable income in 2008, you will see a tax cut when you file in 2009.
If you turned 17 before December 31, 2007, then you parents do not get $300 for you. |

Dependents aren't eligible to receive the stimulus rebate. But you will benefit next year from a one-time tax cut if you continue to have income the same or more than you have this year. |

If your parents claim you then you are not getting the rebate regardless of how much money you made. Also you have to be under 17 by the end of the year and if your parents claimed you for them to get 300.00. Otherwise it looks like you are going to miss out. Sorry. The real reason is that Congress included many people including people who don't even pay taxes like people on Social Security. The difference in why they qualify and you don't is that old people vote. It is an election year. So when you turn 18, register to vote and the most important thing is to vote. Be heard and don't be left out the next time the government hands out money. I am older and get the rebate this time, but the last time I didn't get anything. I feel for ya. |

Anyone filing a return with $ 3000 or more income gets a rebate. If you are a dependent on someone else's return, they get the rebate instead of you. It's just one rebate per social security number. |

If you were claimed or could have been claimed by your parents or anyone else you will not receive the rebate.
If you were not claimed or could not have been claimed and you had a net tax liablity on your 2007 return you will receive that amount up to 600. If you did not have a net tax liability but had qualified income of at least 3,000 you will receive 300.00.
Yes, if your parents claimed you they will get a 300 rebate for claiming you as a dependent and they should since you are not providing over half of your own support and live with them |

If your parents get the $300.00 for you; ask them politely if you can have it. :D
Please ask them to keep any paperwork they receive regarding this rebate refund because it will need to be claimed as income on next year's tax returns. |

You get $600 unless your folks claim you as a dependent on their income taxes, which they probably do since you're under 18.
In that case, you would not get the rebate. |

Unfortunately the stimulus plan will not affect you. even though you made enough money to qualify, since you are still a minor and a dependent on your parents, you will get your normal tax return, but nothing from the stimulus package. Your parents will get 300 dollars for each child under 18. |
