I work in a Job centre and I have met very few people who think it is a joy and fun to live on 57 quid a week. Most people who claim Job Seekers Allowance are desperate to find a job but, for usually very good reasons, can't. Some are illiterate (spell feel as fell, don't know how to use capital letters or spell a lot as one word). Of course there are other factors such as age and experience that keep people unemployed.
Most people who sign on do so for less that 6 months and are usually between jobs. They have worked and made their contributions which they now claim back. There are two types of Jobseekers allowance. One is Income based and the other is contributions based. The contribution based is calculated from what they have paid in while they were working so why shouldn't they claim it. Personally I think if you find yourself between jobs and don't claim it you are a fool and conning yourself. Income based is based on what a person has and like I said most of the people on this have genuine barriers to employment. |

Go for it, I've worked my a'ss off for years only to watch the unemployed drinking my hard earned money in a beer garden on a nice summers day. I only dream of doing that. But i do know people who really do want to work but can't find anything. |

you should be lucky you have a job. i apply for 5 or more a week and i cant get one. i aint on the dole by choice

I think you will find they are mostly illegals ur paying for,there is almost no white people where I live well there is but their polish..some of these immigrants have nice big houses,6 or 7 kids & a nice car outside & get hundreds in benefits a week,I see em queuing up in the post office when Im paying my bills,personally I dont mind if u stop working & take back what u paid in. |

i dont know about giving up work but what does annoy me is people who have 6,7,8 kids or even more and get more in a year than i can get in full time employment
there should be a decreasing child allowance after 4 to stop these irresponsible people from exploiting what i call the BUNNY RULE

You'll get more money on the dole too I'll bet. I mean I work on a checkout and I think if I just have a baby then I'll be loaded... England should set up a system where you actually have an incentive to work, I should so be Prime Minister! |

i know how you feel, me my hubby and kids would probably be alot better off if we were claiming benefits!! its disgusting peoplre who work deserve alot more than the unemployed!! |
