stibbs | The hate cleric Bakri's daughter gets £360 a wk benefits yet I pay tax on a pension of £224 wk. Is that fair ? |
Mine and my wife's old age pension and a small private one are left with £210 a week after tax and are not entitled to state benefits. Had we been on state benefits, we wouldn't be liable to pay tax. This country of ours is totally ridiculous. I don't blame his daugther, she has to live and eat like the rest of us, but to pay tax on a pittance like that compared to what she gets is the workings a lunatic government Additional Details That's gratitude for you for 50 yrs hard work |

I don't know ho you are referring to but I assume she is only claiming her legal entitlement. If you feel benefits should be reduced or other changes made to the benefit system them keep lobbying your MP. You can contact your MP online now.
But the reason I am answering this is that I suggest you get your position checked out. Maybe see someone at Citizen's Advice?
Your wife's pension should be a minimum of £52 a week if she is having to rely on your contributions (it could of course be more). This amount would not be taxable as it is covered by her personal allowance.
This means that your net pension is only a maximum of £158 a week. This is also within your personal allowance so there should be no tax payable. You may be due for a refund! Get it checked out now. |

Is it a race thing that you have going on here?
Are you happy that you have been paying homeincourses Income Support for the last 16 years? As he also blames immigration for the fact that he hasn't had a job for the last 16 years - so most of migrants workers - must be doing just that working!!
On the pension point - people who earn £224 a week pay tax what makes you different because you are over 65 - maybe the tax levels need looking at for everyone.
We could increase the theshold for all by not paying people Income Support for 16 years regardless of race or religion!! |

I am on a military disability pension of £170 a week and am not envious of how much other folk get, there is no point being bitter, it is too emotionally corrosive. The government gets the blame for everything, an Aunt Sally for the aggreived to throw insults at. Stop whingeing, there are lots much worse off than you. |

I understand what both of you mean. This government has a desease in sorting out its finances! I have been on benefits for 16 years but I find that the government discourages people on income support to work. They should encourage people to work for whatever wage they can find and then if they are struggling, top it with a LITTLE benefit. Instead what they have been counselling me to do over the years is to find a job that covers ALL my expenses and discouraged me to accept jobs which did not cover all my expenses.
Now this has kept me longer on benefits unnecessarily and I find it harder to find a job now.
They got their maths wrong again with population and immegration as well - for every one child an English person has a corresponding immigrant has six! Then in a last minute panic, like the government has been asleep for 50 years ... they decide to balance things out by opening the floodgates for the Europeans to come in.
Well there are not enough jobs for the Europeans, the immigrants and the British people and whoever else ... That's why most people on benefits cannot get jobs. The job situation was not so bad before the Europeans came in. I suppose some government think tank will soon come up with the idea to chuck everybody into space to make room for the Europeans!
Yes, the Brits really need to get their sums right - trying to please the world and its mother and putting a noose around its own neck at the same time is not the solution ...

During your 50 years hard work why did you not put more money aware for your old age. It is hardly fair to moan now or to say they have more when you only paid a Small NI contribution ant get your small state pension. If you decided that buying a house or getting married, having children and going on holiday were more important than a pension then it is hard to complain. |

Who ever said life was fair?????? |

no its not fair likewise the powers that be that allow my ex husband middle eastern and muslim, to live in this country and avoid paying child maintenance for our 3 children as he is apparently on benefits, they said he has to pay £5 and he doesnt even pay that. i have told them till im blue in the face that he has a business (i know for a fact as its been confirmed to me he has recently done some lucrative deals) he owns a flat that he rents out yet he seems to be able to claim benefits here where as i seem to get everything taken away from me at every opportunity and am entitled to very little despite being british and having paid tax for many years. its not right he can get away with it. he even got the residence visa under false pretences as he was still married to me and convinced the immigration that he wanted to be with me, even tho i told them i didnt think so, he then divorced me and married again and now has another child. hes living here supposdly on benefits rents a flat drives a car much newer than mine and jets off to the middle east 3/4 times a year when i cant afford to take my kids on holiday. U r right not fair. |

definitly not, why should you work all your life, take out a private pension fund and then have to pay tax on it to support anybody else. |

Know exactly how you feel. It seems to me totally wrong that anyone should have to pay tax on a pension - but with a qualifier. lets say any pension that totals below the national average wage. I have no problem with some city high flier on a pension far more than most people will ever earn having to pay tax. It is an emotive subject though, as anyone on a low wage would say if they have to pay tax on a low wage, why should not people on pension.
Seems whatever they do some sector of the population will criticise.
Next year i will be retiring in exactly the same situation you and your wife have - i am not looking forward to it at all ! |
