Agree, that would be a great incentive to get more people to recycle x |

Neither - the council still has to collect the recycling, however it would be a good incentive but would probably cost too much to implement ... unless we reach the point of being charged by weight for waste collection then it would be simpler. |

I disagree because surely if you are recycling more, you are using more of the council's services, i.e. their recycling collection?? |

Yes. I recycle most things. Clothes, books, cds etc go to charity. I make compost from food waste, tea bags etc. I put paper, card, tins and glass etc in the recycling bin. None of this is even hard. |

If they worked it out by us all taking our recycling to a tip and having it weighted, the council could work out a incentive on the weight we each took in of each kind of recycling we did. I think it would be an easy enough thing to do, but it would mean more work for them so it won't happen. |

I agree but it is unworkable. |

I like it in principle. Would some people purposely load their recycling bins - maybe choosing to buy things with more packaging for example - just so they can claim a discount on council tax? That would be counter productive.
How about the other side of the coin: People who fail to recycle pay more? That raises questions of how you'd measure it - What if they just avoid creating waste? Would it be fair to penalise them for appearing not to recycle as much?
On balance, I can't see how it could be achieved economically or reliably but I would definitely like to find some way of reducing my £203 per month council tax. |

Agree strongly...I recycle everything I can...and I am sick of ignorant peple just flinging recyclable things in their bins....it is the height of selfishness....my own Mother does it! It is too much effort for people and if they had to pay for their laziness they'd soon start doing the right thing. |

Thats a really good question bet the council wouldn't agree though lol |

i doubt that will ever happen recycling our rubbish is a way to make people think they are actually acheiving something for the world while the real culprits the multi million £ companys get off way to lite because it would cost them too much money(sad aintit) the goverments are greedy all the same we pay them we get less the sad truth however on a brighter note im not convinced on this global warming thing i think its a natrael cycle i mean what do we have to go on 2 centurys or sos data |

Well, said Alberto

Agree in principle but as its almost possible to prove how much you personally recycle, its unworkable in practice. |

Totally agree - but how they would monitor it???? I know we have wheely bin spies but it would need to be weighed etc and I doubt the resources are there for that yet. |

I do everything to lower my council tax- My house is band F and it's like paying a mortgage--ridiculous...but--nope--whatev... we do- we dont get discounts.. |

Agree strongly, however the problem is that it would discriminate against those that cannot drive. I have so much I could recycle but as there are no facilities nearby for me to use as they've all been disposed of for bigger sites or moved to the County Tip I cannot recycle them. Grrrrr |

Agree. Your recycling saves the council money. That should be the way you benefit, by level of council tax. Speak to your councillor, irrespective of political party. Get some details off him or her. That's what they're elected for - make them work. Write to your local paper. Many people whinge (not you) without going thru the right channels for information and action.
Being charged individually for level of waste would result in widescale dumping causing disfigurement of the countryside and the cost of clearing this up. It could, of course, cause the onward march of Big Brother by the increasing use of CCTV everywhere, including countgry lanes. |

If you stop paying council tax in the first place, eventually you will get locked up. You will get a free room, 3 meals a day, all your laundry done, etc, etc.
No one likes paying council tax, but its a fact of life. Stop trying to get a free ride ! |
