The rich should be taxed more? do you agree? and why?

No.

More than what...more than they are or more than the poor?

I agree that the rich should pay more in taxes, however it should be the same percentage across the board.

We currently have a "progressive" tax system where the rich pay a higher percentage. This is one of Karl Marx's 10 tenants of communism!

1. Why would you want to penalize people for being successful (i.e. creating jobs, starting and funding companies, providing health care, buying goods and services, etc). The more you tax the rich, the less they'll do of those things.

2. Half of the country shouldn't be able to vote to raise taxes of the other half to get stuff that they want. If we collectively want things, we should collectively pay for them. That is "fair". What if we all vote that Bill Gates should give each of us $100. We can outvote him after all, but it's not fair. Besides, is the world a better place if all of us are $100 richer or if Microsoft continues to do what it does. I'd rather let Bill keep his $100 than be writing this on a typewriter.

3. The rich are currently taxed more. A lot more. The top 50% of the country pays 98% of the tax bill. Do you want them to pay 99%? 99.5%? At what point does it end?

Domdom
100% agree. People who own more than 1 house should be taxed more aswell. Because they are greedy. They are the cause of the inflation. Making lives of rest of us much harder. Rich should be taxed much more!

I use to, but then i grew up and realised that most of our tax money is wasted, and high taxation stifles growth of the economy, costing jobs which has an adverse affect upon those that need the most help.

i agree. if the rich r taxed more, income will be distributed equally. it only makes sense to me for a persons tax rate to increase when their income increases.

Depends on your definition of 'rich', where is the threshold? Are you talking cash rich or property rich?
Are you talking net worth or income?

Don't forget that the more affluent pay far more taxes in terms of £ anyway, higher income tax, higher council tax, probably more expensive cars so more VAT when they buy, increased fuel, more cars per household = more road duty and fuel.
More holidays so they pay more tax there.
They probably buy more expensive clothes more often, so again they are contributing more.
Wealthier people eat out mor so again more VAT and they are contributing to the local economy as well.
They probably have higher utility bills in thier bigger houses, so again they are contributing more.

Your question is far too thin.

The rich are already taxed more, it's a percentage.

You shouldn't be punished for succeeding in life. Everyone should pay the same percentage of their income. We should encourage industry and inspiration.

mobildik
Did you know that the top 20% of the population (rich) pay 80% of the entire taxes in the USA. Why tax them more? We need more jobs, less out-sourcing of work to other countries and less government meddling in our daily lives.

No - it could result in a "brain drain" which would be bad for the economy

jizzumonkey
No i dont think so ... its a very unfair system ... why should the rich pay for the poor ?
