This is for people livin in england?
with regards to claiming housing benefit and income support, would I still receive this if i relocated to Spain??my rent is late and i only receive half of my rent in housing benefit and due to this it is so much cheaper and a fresh start, and if I decided to move to spain would i still receive these benefits, also my baby is due in a few weeks, and do you receive child tax credits over there.I am just so sick of asking the council for help with my rent as I cannot pay it and will be evicted and them saying they cant up it until I have the baby and i am already 1months rent late and will be 2 months on the 9th june and they are now placing interest charges on it due to this.. i am at a loss and if i can get it transferred to there i will relocate to spain and start again?? any ideas or info xxx Additional Details i am not a hard faced ***** i am trying to gt out of a rut i am in, i can be evicted for this and will have nowhere to live with my baby, i am trying to give him the best life and until i am able to find work and someone to have him while i work in spain i was wondering about my benefits!!i cannot rent anywhere else over here unless council give me housing so am trying to cover all options!!!
also i did have a job and was in a good financial situation when i conceived, I have never been in a situation like this and it has only been the last 2 months i have been in this situation... i was engaged in good job and stable, i dont want to be in this situation so dont tell me to keep my legs closed when you dont know my situation, i am just trying to cover all options!! |

No you wouldn't get anything. If you are getting contribution based Job Seekers allowance that can be paid for up to three months if you are going abroad looking for work, but means tested benefits stop as soon as you leave the UK.
I don't know the specific rules for Spain but generally you need to get a residence permit to stay longer than 3 months, and to get one you need to show that you are capable of supporting yourself. In most countries you need to have been a resident for 6 or 12 months before you are entitled to any welfare benefits. This can include your health care.
As to your housing benefit here, go and see someone at the Citizens Advice Bureau and see if you can't get more help. You certainly shouldn't have to pay half the rent from your benefit. Just ignore the idiots that tell you to get a job etc. They have obviously never had to rely on benefits or they would realise how hard it is.
When you have to consider toilet paper as a luxury.....
If you are renting privately ask your landlord to issue a notice to quit and declare yourself homeless. The council are obliged to house you if you are having a baby, and housing benefit would normally cover the full cost of your rent.
I can understand that you might not want to end up on a scummy council estate but at least it is a roof over your head. |

You don't want much, do you?
Sorry, if you leave the country, you lose your benefits - full stop!
Bloody-hell,......... I'd be off tomorrow if it was that easy. |

why not ask the CAB? (citizens advice bureau),you will need to make an appointment, they are very helpful, they are a voluntary organisation,so a small donation helps |

Well it would be a very big change, and the UK wouldn't pay for anything that you need in Spain. |

No you won't get it if you move to Spain! Could you even afford to move if you can't pay your rent? |

Well I do hope you can start again, though personally I'm against benefits altogether - and irresponsible breeding.
I doubt very much that the taxpayer will foot the bill for you retiring to sunny climbs and living the life of Riley, without you ever contributing towards a thing.
Get a job and pay your way.
My mother did it, and many others have too. |

the british welfare system does not allow for the support of its citizens that choise to live abroad, so you would loose all rights to benefit once you left the country.
Spain does have reciprcal health care with the NHS but I think the same applies in that you are covered for ttreatment if on holiday but if you live there permanantly it isn't. I am not sure how this works if you retain british citizenship though, check this out with a cab office.
if you take up spanish citezenship you may well qualify for their version of welfare state but I can't tell you for sure.
You could maybe ask at the spanish embassy or consulate, the address should be in the phone book.
hope this helps. |

Probably not. As an EU citizen you would most likely need to claim any benefits you feel you may be entitled to in Spain. Why would the UK pay money to people who have decided to leave the country completely? Can you imagine how difficult and expensive that would be? I think maybe the only way you could get any help from them is if you were working for a UK company. It would also help you enormously if you could speak the language a little bit - as this would help you to find some work if needed. Keep in mind though things may not be any easier for you in Spain. Just make sure you check everything out thoroughly before you go. :-) |

I really hope you cannot claim anything.
If you can I'm going to quit my job so I can be a full time mum to my baby and go to live in sunny spain.
That would be fair!?! |
