I don't know how a Labour politician can even consider this. I've heard her arguments which aren't as severe as her initial statement but it's still absurd.

Point One: where will they go when you evict them?

Point Two: If there are children, why should they be penalised?

Point Three: It's against the Homelessness Act which recognises that a roof over someone's head reduces the risk of social disintegration.

Point Four: Current welfare provision, eg JSA , requires a claimant to prove theyu are looking for work and can suspend benefits if they refuse work.

Point Five: In April, Benefit will increase by an average of 2.8%. Whoopie, 0.9% more than most. It means £1.35 per week when transport costs have risen by 30%, food by 20-30% and energy by 12-15%. So who really can live on Benefits?

Message: Help the poor before they help themselves.

i think its a good idea however due to my partner having aback injury and i was heavily pregnant i could not work and niether could my partner so we were on benefits he tried as hard as he could for a year to get a job we were sending over 8 cvs of a week for jobs and no one would have him cos he wasnt in work im worried if genuine people cant get a job and they prove they are trying their hardest will their house be taken of them. luckily on the day we first started our benefit a year later my partner got a job at royal mail and is happily working 30 hours a week sadly due to having 2 kids and his hours being unstable im currently out of work but we can hold our heads up high and say we are not on benefits anymore

are these council houses or houses owned by housing trusts

I agree that you should work and earn your keep. Obviously the matter is more complex with existing council tenants, but if you want to apply for a council house, you should prove that you will earn your keep, especially if you are able bodied and single with no children, as there's absolutely no reason not to work. I also think that people who have children under the age of 21 shouldn't receive benefits for those children. This country is turning into a work shy, free for all. Why should the hardworking tax payer shell out for teenage slappers that can't keep their legs closed just so they can have 3 kids by the age of 20 and a free house, benefits etc? And you get the bone idle, armpit scratching, stay in bed and smoke all day young men, who likewise think we should pay their upkeep. I'm sure this wouldn't be tolerated in the "olden days" - they would be vagrants that are shifted from town to town.

For the very few who are taking the p*ss, yes, it is fair but how many will be penalised through no fault of their own? As a 40+ woman and a carer, I still have to go through the indignity of going into a job centre and having to sit through an interview with a silly 20 year old telling me that I could work 35 hours plus a week, do a caring role of as much of 100 hours a week and sleep, eat and have any sort of life!!! How many people like me will fall thorugh the net thanks to people having to fill quotas etc.

Thereby the state pays for their accommodation in bed and breakfasts, which will cost the tax payer a complete fortune

Are there any sane people left out there?

Nothing in life is free loz? Ask an MP how much they get for free
