To tax on petrol should be doubled to stop people using their cars?

Are you for real......!!

I do believe that road tax should be scrapped and added onto petrol. The people that use the roads more would then be paying more tax, which seems the fairest way to me.

Also, there are a number of unscrupulous people who drive stolen or untaxed cars and get away with it. However much you hide your car away to avoid anyone noticing it's untaxed, you can't avoid needing petrol to drive it.

It seems so simple to me!

one of the better ideas to come from the government is the road toll's on majorly used motorways etc, to help with congestion at peak and the possibility of using hard shoulders (improved at less cost than adding a lane) at peak times instead. As for doubling taxing on cars that would be unfair to the majority of people already hit hard by the latest budget changes!!

why should people who have cars be penalised. There are plenty of other ways to make money through tax

No - not until there is an adequate public transport system in place

(I am wondering why I am feeding the troll - oh I know - 2 points :o) )

the UK has the highest petrol prices in the world, and it has not stopped people using their cars. Unless public transport is improved and people change their attitude about the general public...I overheard a woman say her children have never been on a bus, and her friend agreed that she didn't want her children involved with riff raff either...I was amazed.
I drive, and the only place I don't go in my car is the city centre, as parking is too dear and the traffic is mad. I get the bus into town .
All increasing taxes will do is put a squeeze on the less well off.

been there, done that, doesn't work. Rationing doesn't wok eiether. We need nuclear fusion (not fission) now!

Buying gasoline for our vehicles is the only way commerce can succeed now. We need our cars to work so the bills may be paid.

The same ideology holds true for cigarette smokers. The smokers will pay any amount for their cigarettes until the motivation and will power to stop enters their minds.

no we need cars..... u should shut up
