Told my boss ive been overpaid?
i realised on my wage slip that i was over paid by £580 pounds and told my boss and has told head office cos of the amount of tax and ni they have took of me can i arrange to pay back in installments otherwise im gonna struggle and if paid back in one go which i cant im left with less than i should anyway
Additional Details
THIS IS THE ONLY OVERPAYMENT THEY HAVE MADE AND I HAVE REPORTED STRAIGHT AWAY

You must pay it back in reasonable installments (ie not £5 a month). They can not take back so much that you are left with an amount too low to live on.
I used to work in a wages office.

martin_dale_test
they should reissue your payslip and only the overpayment will be taken back. the tax and ni will be adjusted in your pay so you only pay the nett difference back.

ie normal payslip £1500 less tax & ni, you get £1150. This pay slip £2080 less tax & ni, you get £1550. When they give you a new payslip @ £1150 they'll only ask you for £400 back, the difference between the bottom lines.

Typical example of being screwed for doing the right thing, I would tell them that your direct debits etc have taken a chunk of the money but your happy to repay it, due to your honesty I dont think they could argue a few smaller repayments.

Cheryl B
As it's their mistake they can't take all the money back in one go....they should deduct it from your wages in installments. Why not ring head office yourself and speak to the wages department, nothing to lose really.

heleni
It is possible to pay it back in installments - BUT if they have only made one overpayment and you knew right away, surely you still have the extra money to give back right away? They will work it out so that the tax and NI are corrected, and you will end up with exactly the right amount of money.
