Isn't turbo tax a Quiken program ? . Read the fine print of anybody offering an immediate refund. It ain't free. 1040 EZ filer used to be able to submit the forms and the IRS would do it for free. Unless you have a lot of deductions, own a house, business expenses, have a trust fund or get an EIC, you will take a standard deduction and enter your wages. Its pretty easy to do it yourself

I used H&R block last year and paid $126 for a basic return. Standard deduction, did not itemize. I did not think it was worth it. I went to them to see if I could deduct more get a bigger return, Did not. This year I am using Turbo Tax free version. Unless you have a complicated return Turbo Tax is the way to go.

I know HR Block may seem expensive but it isnt cheap to do business. You have rent and salaries and utilities, etc. They do an excellent job and are well educated. They require more education than the law requires. They also guarantee their work. If you have tax questions during the year they are there for no extra fee. JH, LT, these mom and pop places are gone off season. Do they offer off season support? Do the online places offer off season support? You can do the HR Block online and still get off season support.

Celeste
I've used both and either one is fine, but I prefer H R Block. I don't pay to have my taxes done, I use Block's free online filing.
I prefer Block's online user interface better than TT. It's easier to navigate and not glaring bright white screens in your face.
You can always 'test-drive' each service w/o filing to see which one you prefer.

Why not use the free file options on IRS.GOV. They walk you through some questions and point you in the direction of web site that offer FREE filing. The web site won't update with the free file information until January 16th. That is the first day IRS will accept electronically filed tax returns.

H&R Block allows you to see the person who does your taxes but they cost more. You can even do the 1040-EZ and file on your own. But using the free version of Turbo Tax, like the earlier person said, is also a good idea.

Turbo tax, then you know it will be done right without spending a boodle.

AB
I use Turbo Tax. It walks you through everything to file your taxes and saves you the money of going to H&R Block. You will probably qualify for Free file, which allows you to use Turbo Tax for free!

H&R block is EXPENSIVE.....but so are all the tax preparation places (I work at one of them). You'll probably be charged about $100 for even the simplest return.

I actually used H&R Block online for free last year because we qualified for it. Check it out.

Ms.ladyD
I think turbotax is better ,it's easier ,cheaper and get you alot of money back
