Turbo tax question..im married but my wife did not work in the whole year of 2007?
my wife did not work for the whole year in 2007. I dont know if I should file married joint? or married filing separate? can anyone help me asap. thanks
Married joint if you want your tax the lowest. Both do not have to have an income.

Even if your wife did not work, you can file jointly. It is usually to your advantage to file jointly with your spouse, as using the married filing seperately status denies you several credits.

The best thing is to file jointly. My husband is the only one who works(I stay home with the kiddies), and the lady who does our taxes says filing jointly is the best thing to do.

File joint... less taxes owed that way. Married couples can file joint even if only one had an income. We have done this for 34 years, as I have been a stay home Mom.

Married joint. In most instances when you are married, you should file jointly. In rare situations will it benefit you filing seperately.

You can still file a joint return even though all the income was made by one person. That would almost certainly end up with you paying less tax than filing as married filing separately.

Even if your wife did not work and you are stilled married you would still file married filing jointly.

The answers above are correct. I would add a word of caution though.
Your question is a very basic one, and your software interview process should have answered that for you. Contrary to their advertising claims, software will not ensure that someone who doesn't have an understanding of taxation at least equal to their circumstances can correctly complete their return. Based on the fact you are having difficulties at this point, I would recommend that you not try to complete this return yourself.
