mjdear@btinternet.co... | Two jobs what happens about the tax? |
Im in full time employment but i want to get a second Job with an agency they told me i have to pay emergency tax permanently is this true? |

Depending on your earnings level, it is likely your code number with agency will be BR (basic rate, 20%). Be careful though, some agencies do use emergency code of 603L, on a week or month 1 basis. If this happens you will get two sets of tax allowances, and will be underpaid at end of tax year. In that case, get tax office to sort out. |

All your allowances (personal allowance ,any expenses claimed etc) are set against your full time employment and sorted by that employer under PAYE. Your agency will therefore tax you at basic rate (20%)on all your earnings with them.If you are lucky enough to stray into higher tax band you will have to sort that out direct with Inland Revenue by filling in one of their wonderful tax returns.
Hope this info helps.

I concur with 'boycott' in that your second job, with a lower income than your main full time employment, would be taxed at the basic rate of 20%. However just by earning a higher rate income in itself is no longer criteria for completing self-assessment Tax Returns. |

If you are paying tax on your first job you will not have any allowance left for your second job. Depends on how much you earn you could be going into the higher tax bracket? Check it out with the inland revenue. Or your local tax office. |

Yes, tell your tax office to apply your personal allowance to your highest earning job. Your second job will then be taxed at BR or Basic Rate 20%. In April you need to weigh up what you've earned and what tax you've paid and you may or may not be due a refund.
It would be wrong of me to suggest that you don't declare a second income. Yes that would be wrong. So I won't suggest that. As you're with an agency it would be difficult to do that anyway. If I were to suggest it, of course. |

That doesn't sound right to me, there's loads of people who have 2 jobs, they just use your national insurance number like normal. Maybe temporarily they would put you on emergency tax but thats it |

they are having you over. |

i don't think its classed as emergency tax, but there is a different tax code. i was working 40 hrs for my main job, and got a part time job waitressing as well and i was taxed 25% of my pay, i think this is the norm. try if you can to find an employer who will pay this for you (mine did) or who will pay you cash in hand, to make it worth your while. |
