They need to see your full bank statements unfortunately.
A) To check how much you have in savings
B) To check that a couple of weeks before you applied, you didn't withdraw all your money so it looks like you have no savings.
Its not a foolproof system, as you could always have an undeclared bank account somewhere else, but it does help them cut down fraud a bit.
If you want your rebate, then you have to show these, you don't have a choice. |

Local authorities introduced a system that is aimed to combat fraudulent claims. In order to do this council's have a right to see evidence of your financial situation and therefore usually ask for this in the form of bank statements. It is to ensure that you have no money that they do not know about. This has been tested legally and the ruling was in the local authorities favour on the grounds that it is in the public interest to combat fraudulent claims. They can also ask to see other forms of evidence such as proof of identity, residence and indeed eligibility to state benefits. The process is very long wined and can take a significant amount of time to process. |

Sorry you have to show them - they only want to check that you do not have over the allotted money your allowed - come on you could be lying through your teeth - how are they to regulate these things - if your entitled to a rebate - you have nothing to worry about. |

Unfortunately that is what is required. Its also so that they can see if you are getting any income, and if so, how much and how often |

Uk calling..yes all statements of last 2 months..
they are looking for income not private stuff.
checking family allowence child tax credits and any other regular income...if you have more that 3 thousand in the back they could at their descression cut the benafits of council tax acordinly ..unless it's a bill you owe. |

as the amount you get is based on incom surely you can understand them needing to see the income side of things. sorry but that means they can also view the outgoings. but unless you want to de-fraud them or spend most of your money at hooky strip joints why would it worry you. |

They want to check what income you have coming in. It is part of the vetting and verification process.
It is to avoid fraud. If you are trying to hide something don't try and claim the benfit. Everything has a "cost". |

Can you add what rebate you are applying for? Is it the single person discount? Overpayment of contribution? Low income?
If it is low income then they will require proof of such. I would telephone them and explain what you have said and ask if a letter from your employer stating your earnings is sufficient. Sometimes it isn't as they require to see if you have savings.
It does seem a very private thing to request. Even the tax office will take you at your word that you aren't hiding a bank account (unless they are investigating you) |
