No, it's entirely untrue. You are obliged to have a TV License if you have any equipment capable of receiving a television signal. The defintion of "capable" is generally considered to be that the equipment has a tuner which is connected to an antenna and/or tuned in so that it is able to recieve television broadcasts. You are not obliged to have licence simply to have a PC connected to the Internet. Technically, if you were caught watching a live TV stream it might be argued you're receiving a television signal and therefore require a licence. |

You need a TV Licence to use any television receiving equipment such as a TV set, digital box, DVD or video recorder, PC, laptop or mobile phone to watch or record television programmes as they're being shown on TV. If you use a digital box with a hi-fi system or another device that can only be used to produce sounds and can't display TV programmes, and you don't install or use any other TV receiving equipment, you don't need a TV Licence. |

Not that i know of. If you have a device that is capable of receiving television signals you have to pay the licence, be it a TV or a tuner card in your PC. |

I see many here have different answers to the question perhaps a little clarity is required First off You do NOT need a television licence if you are in possesion of a television and you use the televison as a monitor for watching DVD's or videos from your Dvd/Video player. the license fee is for watching television programmes as long as there are no stations tuned in [better still remove the antenna] then there is no requirement to pay the licence fee the Same applies to the Computer which has internet access. if you are not watching broadcasted television programmes you do NOT have to pay any licence fee Further to this i add that the licence fee people is an organisation that has NO right of access to your home so when they come knocking on your door if they do not have any warrents issued by a court they have NO right of access If they ask your name then tell them you are 'The Present Occupier' here is a link which will explain to you and give you advice and tell some horror stories about the TVL http://www.marmalade.net/lime/tvla.html follow some of the links and read up Enjoy ! ! ! ! |
