WE can make it come down. Just buy your petrol from independents and boycott the major suppliers. |

It's out of our hands - literally. The reasons that the prices are going up are because 1) China and India are increasing in usage, and 2) there are theories about oil being a declining resource (I say theories because it takes millions of years to prove but most scientists agree with the premise).
For more information on the availability of oil, search for Peak Oil.
If they are correct, that demand is increasing and supply is reducing, then prices will naturally rise to a point where demand will not increase any more. The problem is that much of our economy in the UK is based on oil usage (however, it could be worse - we could be Americans without any choice but to drive - at least we have public transport). |

Oh, that'll never happen. They'll only go one way - UP! ....
It's ridiculous, I know, but we motorists are to blame. If we all cut back 10% of our driving, they will come down, but that's not going to happen. |

It will only go up because we just sit back and let it happen. The trouble with us Brits is we just except it whatever it is!!!!!!!!!!!. High petrol prices, millions of imigrants, high food prices and low wages what ever the government do we just sit back and except. |

Can't see them coming down anytime soon, as long as the government can tax it, its gonna stay expensive. |

A few weeks ago in Switzerland the price of petrol was only 67p per litre and look at the price here. The cost is so high because it is so heavily taxed by the government. Once the oil crisis is over the cost might come down but don't hold your breath! |

They will come down but it may be a while.
The problem is more to do with demand oustripping supply as OPEC will not sufficiently increase output and the massive Nigerian pipelines have been sabotaged and are out of action.
Oil companies like Shell and BP make little money from pump prices and this belief is largely fiction. |

Its not the petrol companies that are the problem. Its the governments fuel tax.
Its about 70%.
If fuel prices rise, why doesnt the government reduced the tax to keep it stable.
its 110p/L where I live now 2 months ago it was £1 a litre. thats a 10% rise in 2months its ridiculous.
We pay enough tax as car drivers. |

I believe they will come down one day, not soon though. It's not the companys that put the prices up. The companys price fuel at about 30-40p. The rest is Tax. |

I remember when people were shocked that it was a pound but it seems to go up 1p a day. It used to go up on school holidays and that then go down again but it doesn't seem to go down now. |
