Your registration might have expired. It does so from time to time so just give them a call to make sure your still registered.
Also if anyone does phone you, explain you are TPS registered and they are liable for a fine for contacting you. |

there are several issues:
TPS does not affect any firm based overseas.
barring "number witheld" will stop all calls from [legitimate] businesses that operate through a switch board.
I have TPS and it works 99%. If any one does phone I say "rather crossly" "I am registered with TPS. Please do not call again; rest assured I will call you if I need to" |

If this is happening, you can complain and get them barred - check the TPS website. It happened to me and I had to put in a complaint about a certain mobile phone company who were ringing me about 10 times a day - it got the the point where I couldn't have the phone plugged in. I complained and the calls stopped. |

Hello,
(ANS) I'm also registered with T.P.S & yes! the number of marketing calls went down by more than 90%. However, you have to bear in mind the T.P.S is an entirely voluntary scheme & NOT all companies take part. Its mainly UK companies anyway as far as I know.
In addition there are many companies outside of the UK that know nothing about T.P.S and so this means you may still get the odd sales call from time to time. T.P.S registration doesn't give a caste iron guarentee of no more calls ever again.
**You could try contacting T.P.S and see if they can update or re-register your details that might help? just a thought, that might be worth a try??

Yes - I think some companies buy old lists and then the whole saga starts again. I'm just extremely rude to them now. |

Unfortunately the seem to get round all systems.
What I do is when the ask if it is "****" I just ask who is calling. If they answer and I do not recognise the name I hang up, or if in a bad mood just put the phone down and let them prattle on. (Costs them money, so they get the message and do not phone again). If they do not give a name definitely leave them to talk to themselves.
When it cost them money they soon stop any cold calls.
Sorry best advice I can give. |

Most 'cold callers' use 'Number Withheld' to avoid you finding out who they are (or posting their phone numbers to porn sites etc. ....)
BT offer an option to block ALL 'Number Withheld' calls automatically = this used to be free, but I think they are charging £1 a month now (still worth it if you are getting a lot of nuisance calls) |

As another respondent suggested, you must keep up your registration with the TPS to keep it effective.
On the odd occasion when I still get a call, I sound vaguely interested and then ask caller for *their* personal home phone number 'so I can call them back when I have more time'. That tends to end the conversation quite quickly; there is literally nothing valid they can say to get themselves out. |

As the service kicks in some firms decide on new approaches and sell their old lists - that may not be up to date regarding your preference. |

Remember that the TPS only applies to sales calls - you can still get called by market research companies, as long as they are only doing research and not trying to sell you anything. |

@sazkennn said "Remember that the TPS only applies to sales calls - you can still get called by market research companies, as long as they are only doing research and not trying to sell you anything."
This is not true - TPS covers all unsolicited calls not just sales calls. I have heard this excuse many times for MR companies. Often MR companies try to peddle such misinformation on sites like this to vindicate their illegal practice. TPS is NOT voluntary within the UK - it has had legal teeth since 2001 and more powers since 2006.
MR companies beware - stop peddling lies. |
