Life was so much simpler when working ex-pat in the Mid-East.
No such thing as taxes.
I know that the UK Treasury has to show a nett gain, but.
If I earn money, I am taxed on it.
When I drive my car, I am taxed for road fund, and a vast amount on fuel
If I buy so much as a birthday card, I pay VAT
If I am clever enough to make a few quid on the commodities market, it is unearned income time. More tax
I am paying tax to the power company for just typing this.
Gods, I am fed up, and may well take my skills and experience elsewhere again.

There's a health service to treat you if you get sick.
There are schools to educate your children.
There's a benefits system to help you if you can't work.
There's police and courts to protect you from criminals
There's armed services to protect us from foreign invaders
There are regulators to stop the commodity market or the power company from ripping you off.
There's a dustcart to take away your rubbish.
There's a road for you to drive your car along.
And subsidised public transport if you decide not to drive.
Where do you think the money comes from to pay for all this?
In the Middle East, they can pay for these services out of oil revenues. We pay for them out of taxation. There's no votes in taxation so we have to put up with services on the cheap.
So get of your backside and do something positive for your country instead of sitting there feeling sorry for yourself. |
