Trip Advisor | Unregistered childminder and not declaring earnings advice please? |
A woman in our street is minding children. She is unregistered and not declaring her earnings. There are several issues involved that several of us on the street have a problem with.
At times she looks after 7 children
The children play in the road unsupervised, and are causing a traffic hazzard. We have all had to alter the way we drive.
The children are causing a major disturbance on what was a quite road. We know children play, but so many and when they don't live there?
The woman is not declaring her earnings, and must be at a point where she should be paying tax.
Speaking to her is out of the question, we've all tried on several occasions, so now we want to take action.
Who can we report her to?
Can we do it annoymously?
Can the complaint be traced back to us?
Any advice will be very gratefully received, we're not vindictive people, just desperate to live our lives in peace again.
Thanks! |

Tax-wise, call the Tax Evasion Hotline free on 0800 788 887, Mon - Fri, 8.00am to 8.00pm, sat and Sun 8.00am to 4.00pm. Or you can do it on-line www.taxevasionhotline.co.uk. You do not have to report who you are at either method.
From the safety point of view, you could contact your Health Visitor, Social Services, or Child Welfare, or even your local police, any of whom can advise you further. |

Yes, you could report her to the local council and tax office but before you do,
are you sure she is unregistered?
are you sure she is not declaring her earnings?
are you sure she is even being paid to look after these children? (she may just be doing a few friends a favour).
No she will not be told who reported her but will probably be able to work it out for herself. |

report her to Ofsted, report her to your local council. |

I think there is a number you can call - either to the council (unregistered issues) or the tax office (not paying tax!)
go careful with this one |

Yes you can report her anonymously and for the children's sake you should
edit - Even tho she wont be told who made the complaint if you have already spoken to her about it she is obviously going to draw conclusions about who did report her, but this shouldnt put you off. Shame on the parents for leaving them with this woman |

unfortunately kids play I live in an area where kids come and play cos there is lots of grass you cant stop kids playing let kids be kids however if she is looking after so many and not registered then you should report her if anything happened to any child in her care which it is likely if she has so many they could get seriously hurt and the parents wouldnt have a leg to stand on insurance wise, however insurance is not the most important thing the childs safety is, you can report her to ofsted but she can just say she is helping out friends, the person I would contact would be inland revenue, and dss cos if she is not paying tax she will be claiming dss and they will look into it as fraud they will follow her for a while and check her out so contact both inland revenue and job centre (DSS) |

I would start by dealing with the "is she registered" issue first. Call Social services & then do as a previous poster said, work on the concern for the children's welfare angle. If she is not registered then social services will know as they should have a record of all registered childminders in the area.
If she is registered then social services should do a review on her from the concerns you have raised. |

I think you should be very careful as she may be registered and may be declaring her income. You are right to be concerned though and as a first step you should contact the social services department of your local council. Tell them that this woman is looking after a number of children and that you are concerned for their welfare as you suspect that she may not be properly registered or if she is you don't think she is exercising sufficient control/supervision of the children as they are running unsupervised in the street. Stress that it is the children's welfare you are concerned about as they will be much more likely to investigate than if they thought that you were acting vindictively.
As far as tax is concerned write to your local tax office and say you think she is running a business and not declaring the income.
In both cases they are more likely to act if they have your name and address than if you remain anonymous but in both cases your information will be treated confidentially and they will not let her know who reported her. |
