I am only going to answer a few of the reasons.
We need roads for transportation.
Also need police departments
Who would you call if your house was burning down? Fire department also uses tax dollars.
Research:
for medical
economy
other research that I am not listing.
also taxes goes for
warfare
defense
odd and ends such as entertainment. "radio stations."
Then you got some of the less well thought of systems that taxes goes for.
Such as
food stamps
well fare
disability
However, food stamps, well fare, and disability are good also because there are some people who really need them and then there are some people who are lazy and found a loop hole to use those services when they don't need them.
Taxes are also used for protecting USA product from outside trades. Such are 100% taxes on Honda cars are suppose to increase sales on ford cars because ford cars don't have the 100% increase on tax. But that system has flawed and places like ford companies use the 100% tax increasement to line their own pockets, so the economy takes a hit on useless tax spendings such as this.
Anyway, if you were to take taxes out of the economy, would you actually donate your money to places such as military, helping the poor, protecting our country (none military aspect) to the police department or fire department. Would you also donate money to help reduce medical bills for someone else other then you?
If your answer is yes, then you are one of the very few that would donate the money. |

Do you like roads? Do you like clean air? Do you like not being invaded by oppressive armies and peoples? Do you enjoy the fact you can get financial aid and food stamps if you're poor? Do you enjoy not having your house completely burned down because fire fighters put it out? Do you enjoy police protection? Do you enjoy clean rivers and public land? Do you enjoy court appointed lawyers? These are all things paid by your tax dollars. |

Just go to the IRS web site at: irs.gov and download publication 2105 "Why Do I have to Pay Taxes". It is only two pages and it clearly explains the authority of collecting taxes. |

It helps provide services such as keeping up the roads we drive on, feeding the less fortunate people, welfare, schools, social security, medicare, the list goes ON and ON.
Don't bit*h about paying your taxes, they provide us with a lot of good things, and maybe someday you will be hungry and you will have to count on others to supply you with your next meal. |

Well, you answered your own question. The teachers need to be paid, the police need to be paid, the fireman need money to buy their equiptment, the government needs to be paid to run the town/state and country. |

Quite simply, to pay for the cost of running the government. If you can come up with a better way of funding government other than taxes, you'll be a global hero.
Taxes have been around as long as civilization has. The ancient Greeks, Romans and Egyptians paid taxes. Hardly what I'd call a temporary thing.
And PLEASE ignore any idiot that claims that there is no law. There are literally THOUSANDS of laws mandating one tax or another. There's simply no way that the government could levy a tax without a law that implemented the specific tax in question. Any claim to the contrary is simply absurd. |

Thats the way America is run... The government isnt its own for-profit organization (even though it seems that way).. Your taxes pay for those services... You pay for the Presidency, all the way down to the Town hall, post office, police officers, street repair crew, garbage truck man, etc etc.. So thats why you have the right to vote and "should" vote, cause those are the people whose salaries you pay for.. If you dont vote, dont complain the next time you pop a tire on a pot hole in the street and wonder why they arent fixing it... Feel grateful that you pay taxes in a free society, there are countries where people have no choice.. |

The money basically goes to the government. Where do you think they get money to re-do roads, and have free public schools, or feed people in jails??
Our tax money pays it all.

The federal government was given the power to tax under Article 1 Section 8 Clause 1. The 16th Amendment states "from whatever source derived..." |

There are individual needs and group needs. Everyone needs to chip in to pay for the group needs.
ex. roads, street lights, libraries, government expenses, firefighters, etc. |

There is no federal law that requires you to pay taxes. Look for it, you won't find it. Ours is a wholly voluntary system. You can give back your Social Security number and get all of the money you put in and never have to pay again. But you also can not get any benefits from the government. ANd there is no such thing as free health care or free school..it all comes from the tax payer. The more taxes there are the worse off the country is. |
