Wasn't the Boston Tea Party over a 2% Tax Hike? What does the average american pay in taxes now?

It wasn't the tax, it was the lack of representation of the Colonists in the British government. If old King George and The Parliament had extracted their collective heads form their asses, we'd probably be singing God Save the Queen at sporting events, drinking warm(ish) beer and paying MUCH higher taxes today.

The typical American pays about half the taxes that the typical European pays. We like to complain about our taxes, but most Americans have no clue how good we have it.

Yes, the BTP was over a very low tax rate. Something we'd be happy to pay now.

Hey, you're missing the point!
This drunken mob(our beloved patriots) vandalized for a REASON!
They were being taxed WITHOUT representation!
NOW, we HAVE representation!

Don't we all feel so much BETTER NOW?

A part of the reason for the Revolution was taxation without representation. Any amount of tax, under those terms, was not acceptable.

I am retired, now. When I was working I added up all of my taxes. It worked out to about 60% of my wages, but I did have some investment income. So the tax per cent is not a relevant figure.
An average figure is not relevant, either. On the bottom of the scale, there are people who pay no taxes. At the top end of the scale, there are people who pay millions in taxes.

You don't know your history. The tax increase was on tea, and the people who lived in what were then the British Colonies of America were not represented in government.

The situation is very different now.

vegas_iwish
No comparison. Had nothing to do with amount of tax but the method & lack of representation. Dead issue.

The Boston Tea Party wasn't so much about the fact they had to pay the tax increase, but more because they had to pay the tax to someone thousands of miles away separated by an ocean. This was suppose to be a fresh start for them and the king was trying to oppress the people from overseas.

I think we need another tea party, revolt i say revolt we not going to pay taxes no more.Screw the government.
