We all know what the poll tax is spent on dos anyone know what my rent is spent on?

Poll Tax was replaced by Council Tax a number of years ago.

Your rent depends on who your land lord is. If it is private tenancy then it is for profit of the owner.

If it is social landlord or a council the rent stays with them. Council housing is unique within local authorities in that it receives no financial support from central government or the council tax. All the money required to pay for housing staff, repairs, up keep of the houses and the administrative process behind it comes exclusively from the rent receive. rent pays entirely and only for these services. Housing is a self contained unit within councils and has to pay it's own way from the revenue it receives from rent with no other means of financial support

None of the rent is used to fund anyother council service and it does not go anywhere else except funding the housing service. rent payments are 'ring fenced' for housing service use only

Depends who's your landlord.

If you pay rent to a council or a housing associaton, then the monies received from rent is used to maintain the stock of housing that they have.

For example, if you had a fault in the house and you contacted the council or housing association, then they contract the work out to companies who can deal with the repair needed.

They have to pay these companies to do the work. So this is an example of where your rent money goes.

Your rent goes towards the build and upkeep of the property, also the interest on the capital outlay.

your rent is spent on keeping a roof over your head :P

my rent is spent on.... erm... a dodgy front door handle... :P lol

meh, nah seriously... rent is just RENT... you agree a rate... and then it has to be stuck to...

Presume you talking about the council. Housing costs of council houses are not part of poll/council tax, housing is ring fenced and is not a charge on the community as a whole. Councils borrowed money , from government, or elsewhere to build houses and develop estates, This money has to be repaid plus interest, and this comes out of the rental income. The cost of town hall and housing department staff and management also has to be paid for.. the people who man the rent offices etc. The other big item is maintenance, the cost of repairing and trying to keep the housing stock in good order, and to modernise and bring up to date the older properties, double glazing, new bathrooms and kitchens etc, Most local authorities need millions more to do all this ... more by far than the rents they collect.

if you live in a council property,,, you pay rent so that somebody can be employed to answer the phones at your local housing office and tell ppl "sorry we have run out of funds"
hope this clarified that for you

Your rent goes towards the repair of your property and the estate surrounding it (if you live in a council or housing association house) A very large portion of it goes to central government (council houses) as well. It also goes to paying the wages of the rent officers, admin and support staff, and the loans that were taken out to buy the properties in the first place (housing associations).

The mortgage usually, unless you're in a council house in which case it goes to the council.

er, your rent would be spent on paying off the mortgage on your landlord's house I would think!
With tax in general, it is not "ring-fenced" or targetted towards certain things necessarily - ie your income tax doesnt directly pay for others' job seekers allowance and your council tax doesnt directly pay for street lights and waste disposal, and your car tax doesn't directly pay for road maintenance. Most types of tax just go into a big pool in the treasury and then money is allocated out as needed (Gordon Brown's summer holiday; champagne for the post-election party. etc)
