You can get your Refund Anticipation Loan (RAL) only after you receive you W2 and then prepare your tax return. Only then you will know exactly what will be your refund amount.

Instead of planning to get RAL, why not file with in a day or two of your getting your W2. Option for direct deposit to your bank account. You should expect to get refund very soon; though it is not guaranteed when you will get the refund.

HSBC, the bank who offered the loan for Block and Jackson Hewitt, has discontinued the product.

As of now, you will have to wait until January when you get your W2.

The electronic filing season runs from the first week in January thru October 15th each year. You can get a RAL the first day retruns are accepted electronicly by IRS

january 2008 employers have until the 31st of jan to get your w-2's to u as soon as u get that u can go to somewhere like h and r block tax service i do this every year and within 3 days i have my refund the longer u wait to file the longer to get it back

Dr. Deth
it's not worth it - I file online every year with taxslayer.com (less than $12) and get my refund in my checking account direct deposited in less than 3 weeks

Either January or whenever you bring your W-2 to your tax preparer, whichever is later.

Why would you want to file for a refund anticipation loan?

The interest on a RAL is expensive. If you do not have a refund and you end up owing it is going to cost you more money.

Refund Anticipation Loan is a loan it is not your refund and there is an interest charge just like any other loan.

When you receive your W-2 is when you should file your income tax return and not any sooner. I have seen people who owed the Bank money and they take payments and there is more interest with the payments back to the Bank.

It is not a good idea to take that type of a chance.

The program you are referring to is no longer available. H & R Block called it a Instant Money Anticipation Loan (IMAL) Jackson Hewitt had another name for the same product. Neither are offering it again. From what I heard companies are not allowed to offer it anymore.
