What about people who PAID on April 15? Direct deposit on rebate??
All of these posts regarding the rebate mention receiving the refund already and wanting to know when they'll get the rebate. But what about those of us who had to PAY taxes??? Obviously any tax software we used didn't ask for our bank account info b/c we weren't getting money back. I did, however, write the bank account info in the appropriate blanks prior to mailing it off but will the IRS honor it if the rest of the form was filled out by a computer and the bank info was hand-written in??
Oh, and we mailed our taxes April 15th but the check went through our bank (as in processed by the IRS) April 22nd. Does that mean we shouldn't expect our rebate until May 27th or even a little later (if we are indeed getting direct deposit?) - our number is supposed to 'come up' this week but the IRS website has "no info at this time" for us which probably means our $2100 isn't coming this week... bummer! But I'd like to know about when to expect it...

According to IRS 'frequently asked questions':
Q. If I'm not expecting a refund, should I still fill out the direct deposit line on my return so I can get my stimulus payment directly deposited?

A. Yes. Even if you aren't due a refund on your tax return, filling out the bank routing information will allow for your stimulus payment to be directly deposited.

If the ones that had to pay when they filed for 2007 filled in the line on the 1040 form for their direct deposit information, they'll get the rebate direct deposit. If they left that line blank, they'll get a paper check.

From the IRS website:
"Q. If I'm not expecting a refund, should I still fill out the direct deposit line on my return so I can get my stimulus payment directly deposited?

A. Yes. Even if you aren't due a refund on your tax return, filling out the bank routing information will allow for your stimulus payment to be directly deposited."

Bummer.

Tax returns that showed a balance due are the *last* ones the IRS processes each year (usually you wouldn't notice since the IRS takes their money immediately from your account). These may get done by the middle of June...and 2 weeks after that the rebate program should add the rebate to your account and 2 weeks after that the check should get mailed to you....

Very few software programs did an update to allow taxpayers who owed to enter their direct deposit information. When the programs were written, nobody knew you'd want to enter it.

The IRS will pay rebates by direct deposit if you show your bank account numbers on your tax return, even if you had a balance due. That's the good news. The bad news, however, is that your last-minute filing means it will take the IRS quite some time to process your return, calculate your rebate, and arrange for it to be paid.

Tagging along to the last three good answers...

Just because your check cleared the bank on a certain date does not mean that the tax return had been entered and processed by that day. It only means they had credited your account with the payment. As already mentioned, tax returns with refunds are processed first.

I did the same exact thing as you...I had to pay and I sent it in the same day you did and they cashed my check as well..I also put my DD information on the form so I can get my rebate check DD..my number is 46 and still have not seen anything on the website..Keep me posted when you get yours and I will do the same to you.

Thanks

Big Woof
It will come as a paper check. You need to have had a refund deposited in an account for the rebate to go to that account.

You will receive a paper check. If you didn't have a refund directly deposited, then it will be mailed.

I would think that you should get your rebate check as scheduled even if you paid on the 15th (it will come as a check). The IRS website showed no info at this time the day before I received my deposit, so it isn't entirely reliable.
