texasguy11656 | What can the IRS do to you for not filing tax returns if you owe money? |
I was divorced 2 years ago, (wife was cheating on me)had to dig into my retirement to settle with wife, she's not liable for the taxes and i'm broke and really depressed, so i decided that I didn't care if I got in trouble, and didn't file for the last 2 years, now they are after me and I want to clear it up, but I know I owe them alot of money. Will I go to jail or what. Is there anyone or any company that can help me. Why does the guy always take it in the shorts in a divorce? |

It is called tax invasion and yes the IRS can impose a prison sentence but more than likely will not if you try to pay something on the amount that is owed. You can set up payment plans with them to settle the amount owed. I am sorry about your luck, but do not get depressed about money...there are much more important things in life. I understand that you have been facing ruff times but try and focus on the positive things life has to offer. Dust yourself off, get to work, get your debts paid and get on with life...you never know what new and exciting things will come your way tomorrow. Make your ex sorry she ever cheated on you, show her what your made of!!!!!!! Good Luck!!!!!! |

Jail is usually reserved for those who evade taxes, by failing to file, or refusing to file. The IRS is normally satisfied with money for taxes, penalty and interest. |

you will not end up in jail most likely, what they want is to get PAID ! - - - THEY know all about your financial condition already so if you are broke, they know you can't pay much right now, so make them an offer of a payment plan and be HUMBLE and act very remorseful, and offer them 50 cents on the dollar of what you owe with a first payment in your hand in person as you offer !
DON'T forget to beg - - - - do NOT display any attitude ! |

Chances are they will seize your assests to help offset any outstanding balances. It would be worth a shot at contacting them to see if you can set up some kind of payment schedule. |

There are lawyers that specialize in those kind of matters. |

Yes you can go to jail. However, if you contact the IRS and let them know your situation, they might be able to set up a payment schedule so you can pay them back what you owe. I would contact the IRS first. If need be, you can always talk to a lawyer that specialize in this area. |
