Taxes are necessary. They support the government. But, how large do we want the government to be? This is the question/problem.
The income tax was initiated in 1913 ... w/o approval of the people. This spoke volumes about the population and the government.
I don't have a problem paying my taxes ... I know it is my obligation ... but I detest the waste of taxpayer money that so glaringly mars our government.
Government is too large and it is getting larger. We, as voters are at a crucial stage where we need to vote and make a difference to downsize government.
Vote anything but business as usual ... vote for a 3rd party candidate and send a message to those upstairs.
Remember, our politicians work for US. They don't act that way.
We can minimize our taxpaying obligation by minimizing the government ... simple as that.
We need to downsize government to the point where we, the people, see it as too small. Then we can make it larger. |

I don't think anyone thinks that all of their taxes are spent well. I personally don't want my money spent on unnecessary wars, on "faith-based" programs like abstinence until marriage education, and on corporate hand outs. |

Everyone hates taxes. Everyone I know anyway. In general, no, tax money is not put to good use. I think a lot of it is wasted on people who know how to 'play the system'. I've always been told that it is just something that you HAD to do.... live, die, and pay taxes. |

What do you think about getting the services that taxes pay for? The political science class that you are taking for example!
If you want to live in a civilized society with the amenities and protections that taxes pay for, you are going to have to pay taxes.
If you want to see the benefits of low taxes, drive around rural Mexico where the typical person lives in a mud house and gets an average of five years of school compared to about 13 here and decide if you prefer that or what you have. |

I think taxes suck!!! However, I understand that they are necessary to keep America functioning. The nation needs money to cover operating costs, federal programs and agencies. I don't mind paying taxes, but I think that if I get taxed at 20% federal, and have to pay social security, FICA, state taxes, sales tax, and use tax, I have a problem with all of that. Maybe if I got a statement showing what percentage of my tax dollars went where I wouldn't be so frustrated with paying taxes. I think that's the least the government could do to make us feel better. I don't think that will ever happen though because we would be appalled at how much of out taxes go to pay for unnecessary wars. |
