What does CPA stand for?
And also what does one have to do to become a CPA?

gregva2001
Certified Public Accountant, Usually has a 4 year degree in accounting, and then takes a formal test to become a CPA

Spock (rhp)
Certified Public Accountant. means that you've been issued a licence by the state and can represent yourself as an accountant/auditor to the public.

requirements vary somewhat by state. a four year college degree with specific content, passing the uniform national CPA exam, and practical experience in the field are required. there are some state differences in the details.

Certified Public Accountant. You have to pass the CPA exam, and usually have a degree in Accounting.

pusherhombre
Certified Public Accountant.

You must have about four years of college (150 credit hours) and have about 25 credit hours in Accounting classes and other Business courses. You need to have graduated.

You also need to sit for a two-day examination that covers, in short, Auditing, Business Law, Financial Accounting, and Taxation & Managerial Accounting. Then you need to meet the experience requirement and that usually requires you to work for a CPA firm, but many states will allow you to substitute other work experience like working for a currently licensed CPA in private industry, or gaining experience in taxation and consulting. Also requires continuing education and fees for memberships to keep the license current.

Does not require a Master's degree, but the Master's may be substituted at least partially for work experience.

It requires nearly a master's degree in my state. It might be different in your state. Try a search for CPA + your state + accountancy board.
