Tara A | What does everyone think of the VAT reduction in Britain? |
I am glad that prices have come down. I have always believed in Britain we are taxed to much.
I am worried though because Britain is lending alot of money to enable this tax cut and somehow we're going to have to pay this back. A tax reduction just sounds to good to be true. Does anyone know anything about how this will affect us in the future. I don't want to sound like im not enjoying cheaper goods, I just worry about what lies ahead.

I think to much is put on the vat cut and the bit about national insurance will rise from 2011 to cover the cut is kinda pushed aside. So yay save a couple pence now and make labour look so wonderful that stupid people will vote them back in next year. |

along with a lot of people it means f all to me as i have no money to spend whatever the vat rate is |

17.5% to 15 % sounds like a reduction of 2.5% but apparently it is only 2.13% somehow !! |

most people dont think it will make much difference, but if instead it had gone up, it would have been quite a different story |

i think when the budget was read out it was worded so that it souded like it benefits everyone. if you look at the figures on paper, and you realise its up to the businesses themselves to pass on the savings, you come to realise also that this cut doesn't really benefit your average joe and jane public since it only takes a few pence off your average food shopping bill. just because they made a vat cut, doesn't mean all of a sudden people are overflowing with money and we'll start spending right away just to help the economy. people have gone into serious debt because of the recession so getting themselves out of trouble is going to be their first priority, not helping the government look like they've done a good job. the public want to keep themselves and their family afloat. this vat cut doesn't do that. it won't increase jobs will it? at least not right away which is when we all need it...
it doesn't help that eventually, taxes will go up.....where else are they going to get the money to repay the borrowing? now that's something that definately WILL affect joe and jane public. maybe not those who are on benefits with good reason, or the elderly, but once again, the middle folk will pay for it. thing is, the government say they want to help, but they're not the ones doing the helping, its the middle group of people that pay taxes through the nose for everything with no choice over the matter. everyone's out to look after number one. |

It does sound good, but when you go into shops, you are actually only getting a few pence off your shopping, or clothes. So, I think more needs to be done to benefit all the people suffering from the credit crunch.

Individually it isn't making much difference, but it makes me happy that the goverment are loosing thousands, hopefully it comes out their wages. |
