CASH transactions in excess of $10,000 are reported to the Treasury Department. If you take the withdrawal in the form of a check, no report is required.

The purpose for the reporting is crime prevention, such as identifying drug dealers, money launderers, etc. If the reason for the transaction is innocent, there is nothing to fear. It has no direct affect on your tax return.

v b
While the IRS has a copy of the form, it doesn't affect anything on your tax return.

Generally they don't do anything, although it would be reported to them. If there is a pattern of large withdrawals and deposit, especially if cash, they'll likely investigate.

It won't affect filing your taxes.

chatsplas
ANY cash transactions of $10,000 or more are reportable to IRS. IRS doesn't necessarily do anything about it. If it's NOT cash, no report. No impact on your tax return, generally.

It can be used to build a case for money laundering or illegal activities, but not without more than just a Regulation D report. If it's clean money, no worries.

travelguruette
They wont do anything

If it is a regular account, the answer to the first question is nothing and the answer to the second question is no.

If it is an IRA, HSA, etc., then you will may or may not be taxed on the withdrawn amount and may or may not be subject to a 10% penalty.

Not a darned thing. It's your money. Do with it what you wish. But a previous answerer was correct to a point. You can withdraw $10,000 out of your account but it's a good idea no to withdraw those funds in cash. Then regulation D kicks in and everybody in the government wants to be your best friend all of a sudden.

IRS wants to tax your income and not what you withdraw from bank.

Relax, I'm here now.
The bank will make a report to the Feds. for anything withdrawn over 9999.99.
It is called a 'Regulation D' report.

I EAT DIRT FOR BREAKFAST
