If you are employed and under PAYE, and your employer operates your code number correctly, tax will be taken automatically from your pay increase.
Have you ever received a Tax Return, with a 10 digit Unique Tax Reference on it? Even higher rate (40%) employed taxpayers rarely get them now. You won't come into the Self-Assessment criteria unless you are a company director, claim tax relief on massive expenses in employment or have some untaxed income (say interest, self-employed earnings, or rental income).
Tax Returns are normally issued on 6th April each year. If you don't get one, and none of the above apply, HMRC are unlikely to want one from you. If you need your tax position checked, send the tax office your last form P60 (or wait until you get the next one in April), and ask for a computation. |

If you are PAYE then forget it. Your employer pays the tax and all you have to do is fill in a tax form if the IR ask you. Then you must or expect severe penalties.. |

If you owe tax, they will start sending you letters and you will end up having to pay a penalty. If you owe nothing - in fact are getting a refund, then you will still get the letter, but they cannot penalize you. Just be aware that after 3 years you forfeit your refund. |

Nothing, if your not self-employed. Your employer should sort out any tax related things.
Being a contractor, It is YOUR responsibility. If you do not send in a tax return form for the pevious year, you will get a £100 fixed penalty fine. If you don't submit a tax return after then the inland revenue will charge youintrest on the £100 fine and also make a decleration for how much tax they think you owe (could be £1000's or more)
You will keep getting the bills and notices of intrest on these amounts until it is settled with them.
It's harder work to avoid paying it and to get them to realise you were not self employed than just ringing them up, asking for a form and writing (has never been self employed) on the front of it. |

Has HMRC sent you a return?
If so, complete it and send it back.
Otherwise, do nothing. |

You only need to submit a tax return if your situation changes so that you are not paying the correct amount of tax on any income. Because you have a PAYE code your tax will be deducted at source and will alter accordingly. You do not need to submit a tax return on the information that you have provided. |
