summer | What happens if you don't pay Federal Imcome Tax? |
I just watched Zeitgeistmovie.com. And some former IRS agents said that they could not find anywhere in the constitution or any place else where it was law that we pay Income Taxes. These two individuals say they haven't paid taxes since 1999. I thought that you went to jail if you didn't pay taxes? Or they would come into your home and take things that you own. Call me stupid but I thought this was how it was. |

If you do not pay, you get your wages garnished and/or your property seized. In extreme cases, you go to prison.
The "former IRS Agent" was probably Joseph Banister. He has been spouting the same crap for years. He advised people to stop paying taxes and to stop withholding taxes from their employees. One client, Al Thompson of Sacramento took his advice. Mr. Thompson was convicted of fraud and tax evasion and Mr. Banister was acquited of conspiracy. Mr. Thompson will spend 7 or so years in prison. The moral of the story: Giving bad advice is not illegal; Following bad advice is.
Another former IRS Agent (Sherry Peel Jackson) was recently convicted. She claimed the same thing. Her sentence is pending but she is probably looking a 3+ years in prison.
Don't believe everything you see online. File your returns and pay your taxes. You will be much happier in the long run. |

Eventually the IRS catches up with tax protestors. They can be taken to criminal court and can go to jail.
Some of the famous protestors actually *do* pay their taxes. They say they don't so they can sell their books and seminars to other protestors.
It only took a few years for Richard-survivor-Hatch to go to jail. |

People who listen to this complete nonsense and practice it only find themselves facing fines, paying penalties, having property legally seized and go to to jail. Some followers of various tax protesters have gone to jail. I believe Joe Banister who is a CPA has been suspended from practicing his profession before the IRS. A couple of Banister's followers have gone to jail listening to his advice. You know what, the federal government will eventually get these loud mouths who boast their feats and they too will go to jail for years. |

That movie is a load of hogwash, period. If you don't pay your income tax, the IRS will essentially come and take it. |

A constitutional amendment approved the income tax. Many people have claimed that there is no compelling law that payment is required, and they always lose the case in court. The penalties are fines, jail, or both.
Al Capone died in jail on an income tax evasion conviction. They could not prove him guilty of murder and other crimes, but the tax got him. |

The government has put a federal law stating you must pay a federal income tax. It may take a while before the government actually decides to take you for a ride, but they will eventually. They usually go after the rich people first. Spending tens of thousands of dollars to get a couple thousand from you is not first on their agenda. If you decide you want to test them and thier policies, be careful and try to find any loopholes in the federal law that was established. Then again, you wouldn't be the first to try and find this loophole. Vote for Ron Paul if you want the federal income tax policy removed. He has some ideas that look like they can work. But I haven't analyzed his proposal enough to come up with an answer to whether it can work. |
