If you don't pay and didn't file an extension, then they will contact you in a couple of months. They will send you a form to fill out and you will be given time to pay but with penalties and interest. And the penalty and interest isn't that bad actually. It's not good but nothing that will break you. Just be nice to them (serious) and explain you situation in a letter if you must and then you pay it as if a loan. You won't go to jail. |

all THEY DO IS FINE YOU AND ADD INTEREST TO MONEY YOU OWE. WHEN THE ADD INTEREST...IT NOT JUST 5%. it's MORE LIKE 50% get THOSE TAXES PAID. IF THIS BECOMES HABIT, THEN THEY GET YOU FOR TAX EVASION AND PUT YOU IN JAIL. DON'T LET THAT HAPPEN. |

Everyone gets an automatic extension to 6/15, but the IRS doesn't really let that info out, they don't want everyone waiting until 6/15 to file. I believe there will be a slight penalty with interest. But they won't haul you off to jail unless your super rich and owe hundreds of thousands or millions in back taxes. |

Hi Cara, the important thing to do is to file on time to avoid the penalty - interest will accrue, however, so it is also best to request a payment plan. Best of luck! |

You actually have until the 17th this year since the 15th falls on the weekend. But you can file for an extension if you need one.
If you don't pay on time and you don't get an extension, they IRS can come seize your property and/or bank account. |
