I had one year that my taxes sent in the mail apparently got lost. I only had about $12.oo coming back, so I paid no attention to it. Nothing came of it until 5 years later. The IRS sent me a notice saying they never received it. That with penalties and interest I OWED THEM over $48,000.oo!
I had to get an attorney.....ended up costing me around $11,000.oo.

Eventually they WILL come after you. Better late than never - also better hope that you dont have to pay cause they add ALL SORTS of fees and interest. Get it done - governments dont like their source of revenues stopped, they like to keep the money flowing in for their pork barrel giveaways!

He needs to come clean or he's screwed. Right now it is a financial penalty, later on it will be a felony.

If he doesn't earn over a certain ammount, then he doesn't have to file. If has earned over the ammount, then eventually, he will have to pay. It's better for him to go to them rather than the other way around.

Eventually, the IRS will come after you, but if he files and pays the penalties and late fees, it should be (relatively) fine.

The IRS will file them for you based on information returns submitted to them by employers, customers, banks, etc. If you have any kind of paper trail (W2, 1099, etc) and a social security number, the IRS will find you and make you pay.

wow....he should seek advise from a lawyer or cpa, but i know he will for sure have to pay interes on what ever he owes.

JAIL!!! You can go to jail for not filling your taxes not because you didnt pay. Actually you can fill your taxes and do not pay, and then later you will be charge of extra fees and penalities. Check why Al Capone made it to jail.

grandmommy
When the IRS catches him, and they will, he will have the opportunity to pay with the penalties, interest, etc. If he chooses not to pay, he will go to jail, and he will always owe those back taxes!
