Drop percent sign. Put decimal 2 places to left because 4% is actually .04, or 4/100. Then multiply. $900.00 by .04. The answer is $36.00. % of means multiply. The answer is the product. Learning is putting new stuff with what we already know. See how smart you are for asking!

4% is the same as .04, and of means times. So 4% of $900 is .04 * $900 = $36

4% of 900 = 4/100*900 = 36.

I hope you understood the calculation. :) Just multiply the number with the percentage value. x% of y is y multiplied by x/100.

Get a calculator and type the dollar amount, followed by the multiplication key (usually an X or *), followed by the percent amount, followed by the percent sign (%).

So, in your case, you would type:

9 0 0 X 4 %

and it gives you the answer of 36.

If you are using a Windows computer, you can get to the calculator by:

Click START in the bottom left of the computer screen

Select RUN

Next to "Open:" type CALC and press OK.

The Windows' calculator uses * instead of X for times, so you'll type:

9 0 0 * 4 %

$36

so thats $864 left

Just times your number times .04 and take that # away from your original amount

Trickle-Up Economist
(before we go any further: 864 is 96% of 900...36 is 4% of 900)

Now, young lady:

"per cent" means "of 100" (remember the word 'century?' it means '100 years', right?
So, what they're asking (in its simplest form) is:
if 1 is 1% of 100 (and it is!),
then 9 is 1% of 900, right?
So, if 9 is 1% of 900,
then 4 times 9 should be 36 = 4% of 900
since 4 times 9 = 36.

Now: since you have access to a computer, your computer has a calculator: have someone show you how to use it.

You have to learn how to express numbers in different BUT EQUIVALENT ways...
4% is the same as
.04 ('point 04') -and-
1/25 (one twenty-fifth)

so: you could multiply 900 by "point 04" ( .04) and get '36'
or, you can divide 900 by 25 (900/25) and get 36.

but those are easy: it gets harder with numbers that don't divide evenly into 100 (say, 4.25% of $905.25), so learning how to express numbers as fractions (1/25) or decimals (.04) or whole numbers (4%) is very important.

The concept might be a little hard to understand or seem strange, but once you understand numbers and their variations, a new page will open in your Book of Knowledge.

this is the way i do it quickly: 4% of 100% is 4......so 4% of 900 would be (9 x 4) 36. since there r nine 100 n because of that there are nine 4. hope i explained well.

864
The way to work percentages is

The original price 900
so, 900 divided by 100 x what ever the percentgage number is taken away from a hundred
so in this case 100 take away 4 = 96 so the whole equation is

900 devided by 100 times 96 = 864
