it might be under 18k if you're married

it's under about 12k if you're single

apply and see..

The future Mrs JERVIS?
You have to apply for working tax credit. Child tax credit is when you have kids and you have to be on a low income as it boosts your earnings. Type Tax credits into Google to get their phone number and take it from there!

i think u have to be 25 if u dont have kids to qualify check on the inland revenue website under tax credit to be sure

serendpity069

Fill the forms in if you do get tax credit could you please let us all know. Welcome to the real world of work and paying taxes.

regrettably you cannot apply for tax credit until you reach 25 years of age. There is a lot of press about this right now as the 10% starting rate of tax has been aboolished, the lower paid are suffering. There is a way out if you are 25 or over as you will get a top up with the tax crdit, however untril you reach 25 you are worse off, totally unfair as everyomne agrees and hopefully the chancellor will review this as he is under presure to do so and put right the anomoly

not the answer you want but hopefully explains it

Haven't we all!! Phone the Inland Revenue or go to www.hmrc.gov.uk, they'll be able to give you accurate advice. If you tap in "tax credits" into their search you'll come up with a simple questionnaire to see if you are eligible. I have to say I doubt you are - that's a reasonable wage for a 20 year old living at home.

EDIT: You need to have children to apply for CHILD tax credit, not for working tax credit though

You need to have children to apply for tax credits... Sorry!

In addition... I mis-read or automatically thought you meant child tax credits and working tax credits.... Here is the link to the calculator as to wether you qualify or not... http://www.taxcredits.inlandrevenue.gov.uk/Qualify/DIQHousehold.aspx

Tis still very doubtful though... as you also have to include your commission as an additional income...
