The max is 40p per mile but this is for business travel. Travel to/from work is unusual, and is taxable. Its up to your employer what they pay you. Somewhere between 12p-20 per mile would be adequate to generous.

HMRC will tax you on what your employers pay you, as this is the benefit. So at 12p per mile, you get £60 per week, and pay £15 tax (assuming 25%). the tax rate will be whatever you pay based on your salary - unless the travel takes you to the next tax rate band - in which case you pay a higher rate for the proportion that takes you to the next band

hmm - you realise that travel to and from work is not classed as a tax exempt paytment, and so you will be taxed on the money as if it were part of your normal paypacket.

Inland revenue maximum allowance is 40p per mile. By you mileage this is £200 per week or £10,400 per annum!
It would be unusual for an employer to pay this amount for travelling to and from work.

clairelou_lane
I get 12p per mile but from the other answers here I think I am getting ripped off!!

Rich T
I get paid 25p per mile.

I would generally expect 35-40 pence per mile. Especially with current fuel prices
